Sleepmasters Sensaform mattress range - any good?

Has anyone got any experience of the Sleepmasters Sensaform mattresses?

We are really keen on the following and wondered if anyone had any experience of it?

It's 1250 pocket sprung with memory foam

Sleepmasters sensafoam is not good quality memory foam. I believe it contains reflex foam which makes you sweat. I know of a lot of people who have spent a lot of money on sensafoam mattesses only to be very disappointed. Look for mattresses from other indpendent manufaturers who use V60 visco elastic memory foam - also you need to make sure there is at least 2.5 inches of depth - for it to give you any support.

Thanks for posting. We were just about to head out and buy this bed so we're going to wait until we find out some more info, now.

I thought there was only one kind of memory foam? Reflex foam isn't memory foam is it?

We were already aware that memory foam mattresses in general can get quite hot, but have accepted that this may happen and were hoping with it being pocket sprung below, it wouldn't be too bad.

How can I find out the technical spec of the sleepmasters sensaform? I want to find out if it's V60. The beds are made by Relyon (so the sales girl told me) - do you think Relyon would tell me this information if I telephoned them?

Can you recommend any local bed suppliers who declare the technical spec but also have the beds to try? We are based in Cheshire.

Just called Sleepmasters and they told me if was the best memory foam (but they would say that wouldn't they). They said they would need to speak to head office to get written confirmation of the V60

I just found this guide on ebay that states Reflex foam is completely different from memory foam - http://reviews.ebay.co.uk/Reflex-Memory-Foam-Mattress-Scam_W0QQugidZ10000000009648477

So surely Sleepmasters can't advertise their beds as memory foam if they are made from reflex foam!?

I have got them to agree a very good price if I go in before 8pm this bank holiday monday and make the purchase (£720 with 2 free memory foam pillows and delivery - normally a £900 package). I would have 28 days to change my mind if they didn't come up with proof of the V60 spec, but I'm still hesitent with you saying you have spoken to a lot of unhappy customers. Can you give me more info on exactly what they were unhappy with?

I hope you didnt listen to their pressure sales ..... Sleepmaster, Bed Shed, Bensons and Dreams all do the big marketing hype at bank holiday .... I guarantee you could walk in any day of the week and could do the same deal.

You get more value from money with an independent retailer. Im sure their must be good independant department stores with good bed departments in Cheshire?

Memory foam is a mine field, make sure it is UK made, lots is imported from China and is very hot. There are many memory foam densities from V100 which feels much harder and takes longer to soften and mold to your body to V30 which is very soft and wont offer good support. Also manufacturers sometimes use a layer of reflex foam (cheaper standard foam) underneath the memory foam - this will also increase the potential for it being too warm.

I have a highgate total comfort 1500 spring its a great bed, but im sure there are loads comparable out there. If you can speak with someone who has had a specific memeory foam bed and is happy with it that might give you some assurance, or speak to an indepentant retailer - they wont have the incentive to push you towards a certain manttress because of their commssion.

There are some old threads on here about which mattress might be useful.

    Good LucK.

Greentea - we are after a new mattress, old one only just over 3 years old and dh is getting a bad back after lying on it. It has a memory foam topper built in and makes me sweat to death.

Is the above a good price?

Thats the bed I have. The price looks very good. If you ring Highgate beds - they have their own web site - they will tell you their nearest shop - you have to try before you buy.

I found it quiet firm compared to others I tried, but with the softness of the foam on top.

Some people prefer a soft bed others firmer.

Out of interest what was the bed you have had for only 3 years and find it too hot?

Greentea, thanks for your input, but having looked into it in great detail, we bought the bed. For the sake of all other readers of the forum, here's why:

    - The Sleepmasters memory foam beds are made my Relyon (British, and highly respected)

    - Having spoken to the manager of Sleepmasters, he showed us written documents showing that the spc is V60 visco elastic memory foam - not reflex foam as Greentea suggested

    - The Sleepmasters Sensaform beds have individual pocket springs with a 3 inch V60 memory foam topping and nothing inbetween

    - As mentioned, deals can be done anytime (not just bank holiday) as I kept reminding my wife! However, having played the system a bit (ringing all local sleepmasters and playing them against each other asking for best price if we came in store and made a purchase), we got a very good price and managed to not only get £180 off the sale price but also get 2 x free memory foam pillows worth £100.

    - The bed comes with a 28 day satisfaction guarantee, meaning we can return it if we are unhappy

The bed we ended up getting was the Sensaform Chic model with 1440 springs. King size price is £899 (with 2 drawers), we got it for £720 with free pillows.

    This is the beast!!

Having spent 2 hours switching between the Chic (1440 springs) and the Panache (1250 springs), we are confident this is the one for us!

I think I need to put a few things straight:
    • If you search in the MSE forums there have been quite a few poor reports about both the Sensaform mattresses (which are Sleepmasters own brand), and Sleepmasters own after sales service.
    • The Sensaform mattresses do contain memory foam. However they don't say the density or depth. This is sometimes an indication that it isn't that good.
    • I don't know if Greentea was a bit confused, but the Sensaform mattresses do contain memory foam as I said above, but some have reflex foam under the memory foam, and others have reflex foam encapsulated pocket springs. Both of these prevent air circulation under the memory foam layer, which can lead to overheating.
    • Sleepmasters, Bensons, Bed Shed, Homestyle, Harveys, Factory Shack, Cargo, and Relyon are all part of the same group. So it is very likely that Relyon do make Sensaform mattresses, but this isn't a guarantee of quality, as Relyon's reputation isn't what it used to be.
    • The optimum depth for memory foam is 2" to 2.5".

    Tim,

I feel this is necessary to point out to all readers of the forum -

Searching sensaform on the MSE forum brings up 36 posts in total. Almost ALL of these are made by you, making the claim that there are numerous very negative reviews on the MSE forums for sensaform, yet I could only find one genuine post complaining about a sensaform mattress, and that was one with no springs, just reflex foam with memory foam above.

It makes me wonder, what is your agenda? Why do you insist on repeating this false and misleading information?

Reading through the forums I can see you've irritated quite a few people with your comments, and I am not sure I came across a specific mattress you DID recommend! (although I'm sure every single bed in your ebay shop comes highly recommended)

Also, we were informed that the thickness of the memory foam was 3 inches and V65.

Finally, if the sensaform mattresses were really that bad, I am sure all the terrible reviews would be easily found on a google search but I couldn't find any - only these claims made by you on this forum.

I suppose I was hoping to read some opinions from people who actually own a sensaform bed rather than the opinions from a rival bed seller.
