I presumed that the 'wrong side of the bed' jibe was aimed at me! My point is that in the enormous pantheon of food-based health crime, the ones mentioned by the OP are trivial and probably occur in all restaurants at some time or another.

    actually no it wasnt ....

Well, we will have to disagree then. I do not expect to be given out of date food in a restaurant!

I find it a bit odd that you would trust an automatically-generated, computer-printed date on a label, over the eyes and nose of someone who works with food for a living. If a food item were 'in code' but crawling with maggots would you still consider it fit for consumption?

There is no excuse for bad food hygene , there is no excuse for bad kitchen management.

Full stop .. Food on floor bin it , end of best before bin it , no risks taken no risks come back...

Being from a catering background myself , serving any of the above food is an offence of gross misconduct as it puts the company open to litigation...

You work in a kitchen , surgery , pharmasist , hospital , you abide follow and work to those rules set down by the governing body . For yours and the customers safety..

What use is a dead customer:A

  • I would definately recommend that you speak to your local Environmental Health Department, at the Local Authority (LA)/Council where the food business is located. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) or Health & Safety Executive (HSE) will not investigate this type of complaint from a member of the public; but the EH Dept at the LA have a duty to investigate it.

It is an offence to sell food past it's use by date (not best before date, as this is a standard of quality - rather than food safety); and the issues such as dropping food on the floor indicate poor staff practices and/or knowledge.

Even if it is an allegation or what is percieved to be a trivial matter, the Food Safety Team at the Environmental Health dept can look into the matter for you, and it can often unearth other potential problems/bad practices occuring.

I would suggest that you get your friend to give them a ring directly, and advise them of her concerns - and see what they say.

    HTH! :D

I would report it. Definately, no questions about it. That is disgusting..

Im also amazed that someone here does not see any wrongdoing in being served food that has been already on someone else's plate or even worse on the floor!!!! YUK!!!!!

That's not what I said. Bread is usually put on the table in a basket. So long as it has not been obviously mauled then I don't see any problem in reusing it. The floor thing is a more dubious matter. If the food were dropped in the floor before cooking then that's more acceptable that if it were dropped after cooking. Clearly if someone dropped my plate of spag bol on the floor I wouldn't want it scraped off, put on my plate and delivered to my table.

You presume that to be the case everywhere then? the way they serve the soup in this particular restaurant is with the bread roll on the side of the plate that the bowl sits on, (same with the garlic bread) so chances are that it's been handled.
My friend said that steaks etc that are lifted from the gridle and have fallen on the floor are simply pickep up and put on the plate to go out to the customer.
I didn't go into all the details of things she told me as

1: youd think I was making it up!!
2: It would take too long to list everything. Some just minor stuff but when you put it all together I think is quite damning

Incuding very poor personal hygene (not washing hands after going to the loo etc)
