First time poster here so please be gentle
My friend worked in a restaurant over the summer holidays while she was home from Uni.
I have eaten there before but after some of the stories I have heard from her I definately won't be eating there again!!
My dilema is, do I go to someone and report there antics or do I just not go back but say nothing?
she has told me that they would drop things on the floor (steaks etc)
but just pick them up and serve them (not my friend but the kitchen staff, she was a waitress)
They would also serve stuff that was out of date (not by a lot, a day or so) but even that is not on really.
This is the worst bit, if someone had left say a bread roll from their soup as they didn't want it, the kitchen staff would just re-serve it to the next person who ordered soup!! the same with left over garlic bread and stuff.
So, do I say something or just let it go as it's none of my business?
any advice appreciated.
I'm thinking moraly I should report them before some poor soul gets sick?
just really nervous about doing it tho.
thanks in advance for your comments

I think you'll find that this is SOP in every restaurant that ever existed ever. In particular, the reuse of bread is generally accepted (I think Anthony Bourdain is on record as saying that it's perfectly acceptable.)
Serving food which is one day beyond the use-by date is scarcely a crime, so long as it's fit for consumption. As for dropping stuff on the floor, well, so long as the floor is clean...
I can't imagine why you would want to get worked up about a restaurant which you do not visit and do not work for. There are many more, dangerous and egregious breaches of food safety going on in restaurants which need to be sorted out before this one.0 -
Sorry to say, but your stories are not that bad... I know one which includes a chef, a certain bodily fluid, and an ex-girlfriend's food...The quickest way to become a millionaire is start off as a billionaire and go into the airline business.

Actually selling food past it's use by date is illegal (link)
Must admit that everything else is pretty minor though0 -

Thanks for your reply, I did state in my OP that I have infact eaten here but probably wont again after what my friend has told me.
Personally I think reusing bread/any other food that someone else has perhaps had their hands all over is pretty disgusting. Serving stuff beyond it's sell by date is quite a health risk depending on what the food item is I suppose. As for dropping stuff on the floor being acceptable "as long as the floor is clean" that just astounds me.
I'm quite surprised that you think this is acceptable, maybe my standards are a bit higher than the regular punter then?
Thanks for taking the time to reply, but I have to say I disagree with pretty much all of your comments0 -

Ewww, that is pretty awfull.
I think I may just stick to cooking at home, seems safer lol0 -
If restaurants re-serve unused bread they are asking for trouble.
Only takes a punter with a grudge to contaminate a few loafs with foreign objects and that restaurant is going down!0 -
What restaurant is it?.....0

Oh, can I just say I'm not getting worked up, just wanted to see what other peoples perception of it was, that's all. It's not a major issue and I'm not some militant food safety crusader. It's very interesting to see what one person finds acceptable the next person may not.
Thanks again0 -

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to mention names, am I?
sorry but I'm a newbie and not 100% sure about the rules here0 -
The using of food that had been dropped on the floor is against hygene regulations , there is no ten second rule.. People walk on the floor therefor germs that have been transfered from the restaurent or storage areas are there .( Bear in mind all staff should have their work shoes and outdoor shoes seperate. )
No food should be used after the use by date . All food should have hold times , for example salad or ready cooked burgers.
If I found out anything on my plate had been on the floor or any form of hygene regs had been broken I would be straight onto Environmental health , the council who gave them their trading licence and the health and safety executive..and the food standards agency some councils have their own public health team as well.
Any food product which is not served correctly , cooked correctly has the potential to kill someone.ONE HOUSE , DS+ DD Missymoo Living a day at a time and getting through this mess you have created. One day life will have no choice but to be nice to me :rotfl:0
