Just wanted to add Spud- when we were growing up there was never a lot of money flowing round- we didn't do foreign holidays or lots of new clothes etc- we had what we needed with the occasional (very hard worked for) treat. I honestly never minded- the things I remember from growing up are my mum making sure I got to the library at least once a week (I was a total bookworm), or my dad spending a sunday afternoon building me a wooden house for my sylvanians (my mate had had the barge lol). We had our first family holiday abroad two years ago- 10 years after I'd left home lol.
Sorry bit of a random post but just wanted to say that it's not the money you spend that your kids will remember and appreciate, but the time.Don't suffer alone - if you are experiencing Domestic Abuse contact the National Domestic Abuse Helplines

I'm feeling really bleurgh today.
I feel like I'm letting the kids down, not being able to get them 'stuff'. DD would love a laptop, so she can do homework in her room etc, DS is about to start high school so will no doubt also have loads of homework to do soon. I can foresee big rows on puter time, with me probably having to miss out on time here. Need to find a bargain laptop - maybe on BOGOF
We've never been on a family holiday, neither of them have ever been on a plane
Feel crap
DD would be doing homework in her bedroom. And of course not chatting on internet sites in a similar vein to this one. Of course not. She's your daughter, but she wouldn't take after you in that regard....
Not to scare anyone, but have PCs in the communal areas of the house until the kids are old enough and mature enough to understand and believe that a 13 year old called Candi could be a 43 year old called Trevor...I know they're happy and they never complain, but they just dont seem to have 'stuff' like other kids. For example, DS has been wearing shoes up until this week that were literally falling apart. Went to get new ones this week, and his first question was 'how much are they' He wont throw his old ones away 'coz there's still wear in em' It just makes me feel terrible - at 11, he shouldnt need to think like that
In the 70's growing up - we all thought like that.
And we had proper weather then - so a hole in your shoe let the snow in...Yep, that's something I would never have considered, but will definitely look into. DH wants to take em on a plane, just for maybe a day trip but there's only me has a passport - a cheap day out plus 3 passports = a blimmin dear day out
Not if you take them somewhere in this country - you only need ID, not passports.I is fick
No you're not...Thanks hun, they are great kids. I guess i just want to give them more than I can

I assume you have broadband at home? This basically gives you internet access using your landline telephone service. Data is sent over the phone lines in the same way as voice calls are.
NOW, what mobile broadband is is very much the same except it all works off mobile phone networks. So while a mobile phone send voice calls over the 'airwaves', it does the same for data. Do instead of plugging your router at home into your phone line to access the internet, your computer uses the mobile phone networks to do the same.
So basically all exactly the same except.... no wires!
Erm, I think I understand
Just mentioned it to DH, and he was worried about being able to use Xbox live - he's as fick as me

i do dongling, it is easy.... your kids will set it up for you....
We will come one day hun, I promise. I doubt the car would make it that far, so would be plane/train which would probably mean DH staying home to look after pooch

Zed, thanks for that hun. I just checked and the kids dont need any ID for domestic flights, and I could get DH a new driving license for £20, much less than a passport. I'm going to look into taking them on a flight somewhere
