Bank holiday monday daily chat - all welcome!

My 'bank holiday' has been ruined. I changed the direct debit details on my two mortgages in the middle of August and as a result the companies said I'd have to phone up at the end of the month to make my payments manually by debit card. No problem.
Well, only one.
It's not a bank holiday in Scotland and I didn't know it was one in England. So I call up today to make the payments and the bloody call centres are closed so I won't be able to make my payments until tomorrow - the first of the month.
Is this going to be a problem do you think?
I don't even want them to register a late payment as I don't believe it to be my fault.

Spud you are doing the best with what you have my friend, your children seem happy and content and you are a loving close family, you cant buy that:grouphug:
Could you maybe save your Tesco points up for a holiday at somewhere like Haven or Butlins they do some really good deals and your points would be worth 4 x.
I wish I could help on the laptop front.........maybe Ebaying stuff is the answer, I have just listed 5 items and it only took me 20 mins. I havent sold anything on there for over a year. But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.0 -
Spud I know what you mean hun, could you find a cheapo laptop from somewhere, I know at our carboot there is a chap that obviously picks them up, reconditions them and sells them on, come with money back guarantee...is there someone local who might do the same? They are very cheap normally
Ive just listed Bea's push chair in our local paper..hoping to get £50 for it! Money money is coming to me to pay debts....I will be debt free!
I've asked in school if I could buy a couple of the old teacher laptops, but think I asked the wrong person. Will go ask the head when we're back next week
Awwww Spud - I think we all have days like that. Is there any room in your budget to start saving towards one of the £9.50 sun holidays when they next crop up?
It's hard to strike a balance between clearing debts and remembering to have fun before they're all grown up and gone.
Are they available in school hols? I think I assumed they wouldnt be
:T:T:T:T
Hatches a plan...te he he !
You know it makes sense

Sally - you're on a roll! Have you signed up for Dooyoo reviews yet?
I've got a box of stuff to ebay now, will also have a dishwasher to get rid of once my utility room is finished (we had one at the old house but there's a built in one here so the old one's sitting there doing nothing)
DH got a bonus for passing an exam this month, it cleared the overdraft which is great but i'd have loved to have cleared a card with it. My maintenance money from ex has just gone down too which has mucked up all my spreadsheets (he was paying arrears but he's caught up now)...I'm down around £20 a week
Edited to add - Yes spud they're available in the hols but everyone wants those dates so it's a first come first served thing. We've got a 4 night break in cornwall during October half term (not that DH can drive at the moment - if we can't go then my parents will take DD's)"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. I know they're happy and they never complain, but they just dont seem to have 'stuff' like other kids. For example, DS has been wearing shoes up until this week that were literally falling apart. Went to get new ones this week, and his first question was 'how much are they' He wont throw his old ones away 'coz there's still wear in em' It just makes me feel terrible - at 11, he shouldnt need to think like that
DD does quite well. I have a friend who has older daughters (both work in clothes shops) who seem to spend their entire wages on clothes, so have loads they dont want. Guess where all the unwanted, but brand new clothes end up

Hey Spud - sorry you are feeling down today.
If you do collect Tesco clubcard points - they can also be used at Youth Hostels - we've just got back from Wales. We are a family of five and we never usually go away because prices are so extortionate in the school holidays. ANYWAY I am a total convert to youth hostelling - and I don't even own a rucksack or hiking boots! We had five nights away for £250 (and one of those nights was paid for with clubcard deal vouchers) - and it was fab. Have a look on the youth hostel (England & Wales) website - I was totally won over.
Maybe an idea for next year??Onward and upward - with the odd step to the side

Hiya Spud,I'm feeling really bleurgh today.
I feel like I'm letting the kids down, not being able to get them 'stuff'. DD would love a laptop, so she can do homework in her room etc, DS is about to start high school so will no doubt also have loads of homework to do soon. I can foresee big rows on puter time, with me probably having to miss out on time here. Need to find a bargain laptop - maybe on BOGOF
We've never been on a family holiday, neither of them have ever been on a plane
Feel crap
On the laptop front, have you thought about one of the deals with Three/o2/Voda etc whereby when you sign up for mobile broadband you get a free lappy ?
On just a £20.00 a month tarrif you can get a really nice Compaq netbook - it's what I've got - and get a 1GB data allowance a month (usually plenty for a house not doing a lot of downloading etc).
AND with Three you can get a special wireless router (I have a spare I'd be happy to let you have) into which you can plug your USB dongle and use it as a wireless network all over the house.
So you could cancel your broadband at the moment and move to this one so probably somewhat cost-neutral.... but you'd get the free laptop!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Your kids sound like absolutely, positively the most amazing kids in the world. You've done an amazing job of bringing them up, and that they're thinking the way they are is testament to your superb parenting.I know they're happy and they never complain, but they just dont seem to have 'stuff' like other kids.
