All joking (or baiting!) aside, I'm not surprised to read this. Having lived in Edinburgh for 14 years, I'm well used to the ridiculous market here.
I guess I should be happy as it means our own house will be more sellable, but obviously it also means any houses we might aspire to in the future are also going up, probably outwith our reach.
It's a damn shame I love Edinburgh so much. But even commuting distance isn't that affordable either.
Glasgow slums you say? How much for a 3-bed house over there then?0 -
Rising house prices are great for all your kids and anyone else who needs to buy.
Paying a lot of your wages just for a roof over your head is great for everyone........what a selfish society we live in.
Thatchers children at their best....me me me me me me ...sod everyone else..It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
I remember talking to a youngster a few years back who had bought. Pleased with himself he was. Told me that soaring house prices were the mark of a good economy or some such twaddle.
He then went on tell me that he and his Mother were releasing some equity to buy a place in Florida. Ouuuuch!0 -
Folks,
Hamish got fed up of posting his ramblings in the Edinburgh pages of the House Price Crash website and property stories in Edinburgh Evening News. Now he's trying to preach to you guys. Edinburgh's full of places that won't sell. The New Town (very very good area) used to be full of "For Sale" signs. Now it's all DJ Alexander "To Let" signs. This is an area where toffs used to be queuing round the block to buy places. Hamish, granted places are still selling but most are now at Fixed Price.
Just ignore him and don't reply to his postings and he'll go away.0 -

I think Scotlands house price lull was entirely media enduced. Unemployment has since risen not to the degree south of the border.
My mate is trying to buy a flat right now and I can tell you hes put in a dozen offers that would have otherwise been reasonable in 2007 although no seller is biting as yet.
Unless you are forced to see people seem to just have the mentality of "If it sells, it sells" and they are not prepared to let them go cheap.0 -
Lots of "SOLD" signs up around Edinburgh now so it does seem as things have changed.0

Still, at least some of the hpc scottish section uber-bears have managed to keep their sense of humour about the whole thing.
