Whenever I visit my mum and dad I always ask for egg and chips for tea - with the obligatory warburtons bread and lurpak butter of course - washed down with a big pot of tea (with sugar) - yum - roll on 19th September.......0

I'm dribbling now
I just have to have some today, it's driving me nuts, just thinking of the smell of the salt and vinegar rising up from the chips
We never had chips at ome, mom said it wasn't a proper meal, like it was for lower class people. You couldn't get much lower than us though :rotfl:
We'll be having egg, chips and bacon that's been grilled to within an inch of it's life - all crispy and salty - tasty!

why did i have to open this thread. i want egg and chips for my tea and i want the proper chips made from a deep fat fryer. im going to have to go and buy a fryer and some potatos and oil to make it!
we used to have dinner and tea, but where i grew up no one could understand why i kept calling lunch dinner and dinner tea so i changed to saying lunch and dinner, but with family its dinner and tea! however it was always the dinner bell that rang at school and never the lunch bell so nah nah nah
would say we were middle class although class structuring had died a death by then in the late 80's (im 23), but parents owened own home, dad worked, mum stayed at home with kids, never wanted for anything although we thought we were hard done by compared to friends parents that bought them anything and everything at the drop of a hat. meals we always had tea about 4/5pm when we were very young to fit in with bed times and then when we got a bit older it would be around 6pm and has stayed 6 for many years. now im on my own so to speak we eat between 6/7pm. i think this is just right, my oh thinks its to late!Debt free 3 years early :j

I was always told that Brown sauce for Northerners and Red sauce (ketchup for southerners. I'm from the North East and a brown sauce fan:j”Pour yourself a drink, (tea for me now)

Chips and Egg featured regularly on our menu when I was a child - 50's/60's - my grandparents had chickens so we had our own eggs
. We had it served with peas and Bread and Butter (preferably thin sliced) and it had to be brown sauce (HP or Daddies).
Baked Beans were for Beans on Toast and we NEVER had them as a vegetable.
Another cheapie meal was 'Specials' (slices of potato dipped in batter and deep fried) with chips - so, in effect, just fried, battered potato slices served with fried, chipped potatoes :rotfl: - all that cholesterol .0 -
I'm from the south living in the north and I like both equally.

I'm from the south but I like both ketchup and brown sauce, I usually have both at different sides of the plate
I also love mushy peas!
I'm almost drooling at the thought of a chip buttie with crusty white bread, not that floppy stuff and loads of butter and ketchup...**Thanks to everyone on here for hints, tips and advice!**:D
