Egg and Chips

A lot of lily gilding here. Here is the correct egg and chips recipe. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FINESSE IT.
White sliced bread. Preferably Mother's Pride thick sliced.
Lots of butter on bread.
Cut chips from fresh potatoes. Fry in hot fat, ideally in lard until golden brown. Drain and salt.
Place chips longitudinally onto one half of the slice of bread until the half is completely covered with chip, and fold the other half over the top. This is VITALLY important, a proper chip butty must be folded, not constructed from two slices of bread. This will displace at least one butter covered chip which can be eaten immediately.
Sink teeth into butty and enjoy. Ideally with a hot cup of builders tea.
It's an indescribably delicious taste. There is a sweetness to the potato which comes out with the butter and bread, it's almost ambrosian in quality.
Sauce or ketchup would overpower it, really not recommended. Dipping in Egg yolk is allowed, though unnecessary.0 -

Someone was talking about egg and chips in the Arms earlier today.
I suddenly realised I'd never had egg and chips for about ten years at least and I just had to have some.So me and OH have just finished double egg and chips with realy soft bread and butter for the butties.
Oh my goodness it was gorgeous,0 -

But gotta be proper home made chips. Is it a Northern thing? A Yorkshire girl myself so maybe that is why it's the sort of meal that "takes me home"!
Particularly good when you've been on holiday and eaten all sorts of exotic things, to come home and cook egg and chips! Yum!
I'm a southerner but egg and chips was a very popular tea in my childhood (not so long ago either- I'm only 26). I used to love home made chips done in the deep fat frier!:DYummy mummy, runner, baker and procrastinator0 -
We often have egg and chips or, more often eggs and potato wedges (home made). My daughter always asks for chips and egg - don't know where she picked that up from. I rather like fried egg sandwiches too.0

The working class always had it right anyway ,who could face a meal at lunch time ? you haven't worked up an appetite by then and eating only a couple of hours before bed certainly isn't good for you ,5-6ish is by far the best time for a meal :T
oops sorry...I appear to have quoted myself ,rather than editing to add the last paragraph:o0
