It all worked ok for me.
Applied online on Friday, via quidco, got acceptance email within 5 minutes.
Haven't yet received any letter but today the new Premier Bank account showed up online (still have online access from last time I had A+L accounts) with a £1200 overdraft.
Will now use that overdraft as the opening deposit for an Online Saver, another £20 from quidco.0 -

I applied for Premier Current Account on Tuesday 08/09/09 and requested to switch my DD & SO from my Halifax account to A&L. I have received welcome letter today. I have contacted A&L today and they have told me switching has not been started as yet but it can happen anytime.
My questions are:-
1. Anyone opened A&L previously knows how long it takes to switch DDs?
2. Has anyone got alternative number to 0844 800 9000? I have checked saynoto0870.com but cannot find a number which works.

I phoned the freephone number on Monday just stressed that I was a new customer and had no intention of phoning A+L 0844 number.

I tend to use the 0800 0566 066 number for existing A&L accounts. I am not too sure if this number works for new accounts, but it's worth a try.

Bit of a daft question but I'm unsure...
You need not to have had an account with them in the 3 months previous to applying... I have an A+L account sat dormant that I haven't used for a couple of years, never got around to officially closing it. Will that now be closed automatically or will it be sat open somewhere still? Don't want to apply if it's not worth it!0
