Oh my head is spinning trying to work out what's the best way to go with my debt. As I said earlier,I want to lighten the financial burden the debt is pushing me in. I'm paying £400 a month towards it atm and when next payment goes out (late dec) my interest (the one that has been accumulating over years) will have been paid and I'll start paying the capital off. I was thinking lowering the payment, not sure how much, maybe £75 to ease my budget and have more of a life.

    If I paid £370 a month, I'd be debt free in September 2012. (that's €400 a month,letter I got from the loan people.)

Now, I've just got a letter from Virgin offering 6.9% on balance transfers and money transfer actions for the life of the balance. If I'd transfer £3400 I worked out (with snowball of course!) that if I paid £325 a month, the loan would be paid off in Nov 2011 and the card Sept 2012. So I'd be paying less than now and still would be debt free at the same date. Obviously, if I paid anymore, that would get DF date closer and closer, but I would have that cushion of comfort on the minimum payments.

So, honest thoughts. It seems like a no brainer, worth doing?

  • Hi all

Tirl - i think there is a fine line between what we should do and what is best for us to do. I say do whichever makes you feel good and don't feel guilty. You can change your mind at any time. you have posted a lot about being frustrated with the endless churn so I think that you just need to be careful of 'fun' creep. Give yourself slack to make life good again, but be strict with the extra freedom you give yourself (if you see what I mean)

Starnac - great news about the interview

    Doodles - hi hun

    hi everyone

starnac best of luck with the promotion

tirl I would go for it - including the occasional lower payment to have a reasonable quality of life

I had an interview today but I think I am going to pull out regardless of outcome - too far too go and not a company I think I would be comfortable at... scary tho. Thought of you PAID as you had the courage to resign before you had somehting to go to. I think if I took the job I would always be looking over my shoulder for a better one nearer to home...

    Morning all.

Can't believe it's only Tuesday, for some reason it feels like Thursday to me. :o

We're going to football tonight.Really looking forward to it actually. :)

Need to call the credit card about the balance transfer, want to know how much the minimum payment would be. Need to contact student loan people as well, but sure they don't mind if I can actually pay it quicker. Spoke about my plans with bf yesterday, or more like was letting him know what I was planning to do.It's funny talking about thing when you're not disclosing sums or anything.
