    Morning all!

Very bad news for me this morning. Took my car to service ahead of it's MOT...and it's not going to live. Way too many things need fixing, garage said cost would be £500-£600 and the car's hardly worth that. And they might find more stuff wrong when things are coming off so it's going for scrap...:(

Been checking sites though and one said you should be very careful about organisations that offer you cash for scrap..? I wouldn't've minded a bit, but not sure what to do now. Just had a phone call, an unexpected development, one of the guys at the garage said he'd be interested in buying the car. Obviously, he can fix it for cheaper cos he's got the skills. He didn't say how much he'd offer, said he'd chat to me when I came to collect the car...

Need to make decision soon though as just bought a new tax disc which starts next month and want the money back from that. Would obviously sell it without tax and mot. And not buying another one straight away.

oh tirl that's annoying. i hate it when cars die like that. if you plan to scrap it i'd get my money back for the tax too. dont be wasting a full 12 months tax. they're expensive enough as it is!!! hope you get something for it though if you do decide to sell it to the guy at the garage

Rang one scrap yard, car only worth £50 on weight.
I'm going to claim my tax back now, I'll only have the car for the next week, till end of this month!! If the guy at garage wants to buy it, it's without tax and MOT. Unfortunately I'm not in a position where I can take advantage of the governments scrappage deal, but that might be why this bloke wants to buy it. I'll just ask straight out what he wants to offer for it. I have a week to decide.

Sorry to hear the bad news Tirl - that is where we were in the summer when both our cars died within 4 weeks of each other! Hugs to you - not nice to have such bad news.

Hope the mechanic offers you something decent....

Unfortunately he didn't offer anything decent. Just a young chap on a look out for a cheap run around so just offered £80 which is slightly more than the first scrappage place offered me. The next place I called said the guy responsible of Cardiff area was in prison and if I still had the car in a weeks time I should call as he would be out then! That was so weird!

Anyway, found another possible option on google today, will need to ring them and check it out tomorrow, but that could possibly net me £170ish for my car....not holding my breath though.

  • Hi Tirittan

Sorry to hear about your car, what a pain, they are great to have but do take up a lot of money with petrol/diesel, tax, insurance, MOT, Servicing etc.

Hope you find someone who will give you a bit more for it.

    Good luck

  • Hi all,

Well back from Oz yesterday and have been wide awake since 4am!!!

Had a brill time in Australia and got to do loads including heading up the central coast from Sydney (to a house with a hot tub - which I couldn't use ) for a few days and also going to Melbourne for 2 days. My nephew is absolutely gorgeous and his christening went very well. Myself and OH were very proud to be godparents. We also got to see 2 sets of friends new babies so that was lovely too. I never stopped though until the last 2 days and was fairly tired by the time we left! My SIL's family gave us loads of baby presents which was really nice and as usual they made us feel very welcome.

We stopped off at Abu Dhabi on the way back and stayed at the Shangri La - which was very plush icon_smile.gif I would say it rivalled the hotel we went to on honeymoon it was that nice.

The flight wasn't half as bad as I thought it would be but I am glad I won't be doing it for another few years!

CAFC - delighted to hear that the scan went well :)

Tirlittan - sorry to hear about the car.
