Turn the mixer on its side. there should be a label inside the pillar telling you which model of mixer it is. :)

i haven't actually received it in the post yet, but as is typical of life i found an A901E locally for £20 and is in excellent condition, it only has a k beater and liquidiser so i shall compare the two when the other one arrives and see which i like better and i can swap the compatible bits i want and sell the one i dont want .
  • Hi everyone. Loving the thread.

I just wondered if anyone can help. I've just been given a KM201 and the attachments are very expensive from the site '4kenwood' so was hoping to pick up some second hand ones on ebay. There's not much listed for my model number with ebay so can anyone tell me if the 701 or 901 attachments will fit?

    I'd love a grater/shredder and a potato peeler.

  • I'm also a huge fan of http://www.kenwoodchefrestore.co.uk/ They are absolutely clear about which attachment fits which model, and are prompt emailers if you have questions to ask. I have a 50 yr old Kenwood and they have been most helpful with prompt deliveries and reasonable prices.

Please forgive me my language mistakes!
Sadly i had to remove the pictures because of me being new..

    First of all, great thread!

I just picked op a A701 with a lot of attachments from marktplaats (kind of a Dutch Ebay).

I saw some oil leakage over here:

"Spot where you put the K-beater."

I was planning to repaint the thing, but decided to give it a service as well. Not knowing anything about these machines this forum was very helpfull!

What i read most is that when you got any kind of leakege you should replace the grease. Because of old grease gets oily?

I was wondering of replacing the grease is going to fix my problem?
Or is there any gasket between the shaft(?) and the gearbox that should be replaced?

    Another question:

When i took it apart there was a lot of grease outside of the gearbox. In the next picture i already removed some but you can stil see some grease that came out:

    "Messy outside of the gearbox."

I saw no gasket between the two pieces of the gearbox, but there was some kind of thin silicon layer. Do I need to add any liquid gasket or will the new grease solve the problem?

What is a good way of cleaning out the old grease?

Last question: Any advise on replacing some parts for service?
The carbon motor brushes and the belt were fine, so those i'm not replacing them. I only tested the machine without any in it, and it worked fine, can i conclude that all the elektronics are fine?

Hope i could get some advise and put this thing together!
  • Just got all the help and parts that i needed from Kenwood Chef Restore.

    Great shop!
  • My, probably about 60 years old, Kenwood Chef A701A is still going strong (apart from a tendency to leak a little lubricant).
However, working on the principle that it will give up at some time, I had a look on the Kenwood site

    - 16 different models:eek:.

Any advice on which to consider/avoid would be appreciated.
  • I have the Kmix, I love it. Amazon have some very good offers at the moment. But it really depends on what you want it to do. Also if you buy a new one now Kenwood have an offer where you can claim a free attachment (mincer, pasta, cutter, veg slicer).

    Good luck with your choice.

I have the km001 - with the 3 outlets so you can have a food processor attatchement as well - this did me for 7 years till I cracked and bought a bigger fp as well.

I have an A701A and I believe these models are about 40 years old now. They're very reliable and there's not a great deal to go wrong, but if they do the faulty part tends to be obvious, replacements (usually refurbished ones for old models) are easy enough to locate and these mixers are from my experience one of the most user serviceable appliances. Taking out the old part is never difficult and it teaches you how to install the new one. However, if you're really not sure about the DIY aspect plenty of places will do the work for you, a few even specialise in repairing or restoring these old mixers.
