  • Thanks zippy chick. I've been using lots of brute force, ok well maybe not brute, I think I was just being a bit too delicate with it before! I've got it all sorted out now, thanks for your help :)

Only issue now I can see with it is that the bowl is very stiff to get off, I have to use a tea towel otherwise I can see myself cutting my hand pretty badly as the metal is thin and sharp :( I see all these people on ebay looking to be paying over the odds for a metal bowl, I get one with my mixer and what I really want is a kenlyte bowl!

They have a downloads page and there's manuals for different models on there. I had my A901 serviced by them a little while ago, and my very sick Kenwood is now very much alive and kicking again.

My apologies if I'm not allowed to add the link. I'm not in any way connected with the company. Just a hppy customer.

You sound like you know what you're talking about Alex, I wonder if you might be able to tell me where I went wrong, or anyone else who can help.

I just bought a stainless steel bowl on ebay for my Kenwood chef model no. A901D, and the bowl is the tiniest fraction too large to fit into the base.:( The holes for the lugs to go in are in the right place and the height is fine, but the overall circumference is just a bit off. I could actually use the bowl by wedging it down and not clicking the beater arm right down but this might be bad for the machine. Even second hand the bowl was expensive and I don't think I can get a new bowl here in Tasmania, but I don't want to risk any more bad ebay purchases so maybe someone can tell me how to avoid this mistake if I buy another one.

Great to meet so many other Kenwood Chef enthusiasts.

i have just bought a kenwood a701 and would like to be able to make sausages with it,
do i need to buy a mincer attachment and a separate sausage filler tibe thing ?
i think only attachments for the a701 are suitable for this model is this right ?
also does the a701 cope with mixing and kneading dough well ?

    thanks in advance
    sam :)

There's a few variations in model, so can you be clear if it's an A701 or A701A? This site will help you identify the mixer (click on "see detail" for the planetary hub as this is the main difference):

    http://www.kenwoodchefrestore.co.uk/Kenwood%20Chef%20Models1.htm

I have an A701A, which despite being about 40 years old still regularly does heavy tasks like kneading bread or crushing ice in the blender perfectly. It was certainly designed to do this, but if your mixer has any faults you may discover them by trying things like this. They are tough and very long lived, but if it ever does break people still repair them and if you're vaguely handy with electrical stuff they are user serviceable too.

Attachments for the A701A are pretty easy to buy, anything that goes in the hub above the bowl such as the balloon whisk and k-beater is the same as the A901. You may have to adjust the height of the tool so it's close to but not hitting the bowl. The A701 has its own hub attachment and I don't see so many tools for these. The other ports on the top and side for attachments like a blender and grater are interchangeable between the A701 and A701A (only these models, those for the A901 and others will not fit). The A701A was fortunately a popular model and eBay/car boot will turn up many good attachements for you for these ports.

So, to summarise, if you have an A701 the hub will only take A701 tools, but the other ports can take attachments for the A701 and A701A.

If you have an A701A the hub will take A701A and A901 tools. The other ports will take A701 and A701A attachments (but not A901 attachments despite the hub being compatible!)

I hope this makes sense and doesn't just sound like lots of model numbers! This mixed compatibility left me a bit confused at first, but now I have no problems buying stuff for my mixer.

yes it is an a701, i have the balloon whisk, dough hook and k beater with it, thanks for the advice re the attachments, luckily i have been doing loads of swatting up so i knew what you meant with the model numbers without being confuddled. now just need to know about the mincer/sausage filler really now and if the a701 is really up to the job of bread dough kneading/mixing
    thanks sam

I have the manual for my mixer which contains a lot of information about the various attachments made at the time (guessing late 60s early 70s?) and it shows the mincer and sausage filler being separate items which work together. The mincer is part number A720 and the optional extra sausage filler is A726, which attaches to the mincer. There may be other attachments that are compatible and do the same thing, but these are the ones in my manual. If you PM me your email address I would send a scan of the pages.

As for bread, I'm pretty sure all the kenwood mixers are suitable for kneading dough. I know people with older ones than yours that do.
