YES IT IS (working, that is)!

Your car dying on you sucks beyond belief and must feel like a right kick in the teeth, but imagine if you hadn't started to pay all this back and THEN got this on top - it could have sent you financially over the edge.

It will probably take you a few days to come up with a solution (buy a 2nd hand, buy new on finance or rent (temporarily) or lend from someone else being the only options I can see, but you could be more resourceful than me ;)), but you will work out a solution, even though you don't like the fact that you have to.

I'm sorry - I know that it's carp, but you will find a way around it. :kisses3:

Thank you for nice supportive messages, just feel like it is such a kick in the teeth. I knew it wouldn't last as long as we hoped but didn't expect today's news!

At least we can discount the huge car bill from OH's bonus now. We do have some funds that are not borrowed to pay for it but there is still a shortfall we need to find as we need something decent.

I feel sick to the pit of my stomach about the mood OH will be in when he gets home and that we will undoubtedly argue about it. I know it really isn't the end of the world and we will get by but I truly can see no end to this at the moment. I'm seriously wondering whether to see about a DMP or IVA and just admit I can't repay it by myself. Don't want to as it will affect us in other ways but not sure how I can carry on feeling like this.

Off to make cakes with kids who think it is the most exciting thing in the world getting a new car, bless their innocence.....

But don't threat there is always always a silver lining...i hope this can be sorted out asap trade it in for scrappage scheme maybe? Get a cheap monthly car or consider lease no strings attatched or hopefully borrow someone elses everything will be ok it's got to be everyone said 2010 would be a good year :-)

    hello!

thought i'd finally post on your thread, after having spent a couple of weeks reading it from start to finish!

you have to remember where you would be now if you hadn't had your LBM - you have done SO well so far. you have tried a few things, such as ebay and are going to try a few more and so are still in the early stages.

You can and will do it! good idea re. the scrappage scheme - lots of folks will have their own thoughts on cars - but you will have to decide either on a cheap car or / vs one that is in a low tax and insurance band or includes 7 years warranty etc. i always think if you can keep a car for its life then a new one (basic model) is the best value.

you have also seen WorkingHardDFW and Hypnos journeys, and can see how they and many others have approached their debt.

i like ebay, but after spending years on it selling and researching i now buy and sell (from car boots/charity shops) easy-to-pack items that i think will make money. i tried mystery shopping, but it was too much like hard work for me personally. haven't tried matched betting.

i also think that the best way to make money is not to spend it! over time we all find ways of being more prepared and buying good quality cheaply and spotting deals - do you regularly visit www.hotukdeals.co.uk?

you will get through this - perhaps you can use this as a way of getting your OH to agree to setting aside a set amount of money each month to pay for this/future car etc.

    take care x
  • IMD - cars are pants, am so sorry this has come along for you just now. A lease sounds a great idea to me - a lot to find each month but no nasty surprises like this one, maybe?

Poor you, sending best wishes and good karma down the wires.....

What I would suggest is that you give CCCS a call, and just talk things through with them, or do their debt remedy online.

I'm not saying this because I think you need to go on a DMP, but I do think you need to talk about it, to see whether it is in fact something that is right for you, or just to rule it out again.

I never wanted a DMP - my job requires my credit record to be impeccable, and a DMP would have ruined that. BUT I did have to consider it - on more than one occasion, when I was in the same boat you are in now - that feeling that it will never end, when my debt was at about the same level as yours.

I spoke to both payplan and CCCS, about a year apart - talked things through with people who gave me facts, not trying to sell me a quick fix. I could ask questions, I could cry, I could sound like the failure I felt, but they didn't judge - they are used to it, and were able to talk to me objectively.

What that then did was allow me to go away, come back to my diary, log my thoughts, and come to the conclusion that I was doing the right thing in sticking to the hard slog. And of course, as time has gone on, it is apparent that the route I chose was exactly the right route, and the end is finally in sight.

Give CCCS a call or do Debt remedy. Take notice of your immediate feelings - do you feel relief as you see an alternative solution, or does it make you feel as though it just creates more problems for you etc.

Just talking or doing the online thing doesn't mean you ever have to take things further. It is just doing your research, but if you do find that you are thinking of it as a workable option for you, then that is just fine, and you will get all the support you need.

    xx

    Hey IMD,

I can totally see why you are frustrated and sick to the back teeth, and I can't make any sort of qualified opinion on whether or not you can keep it up, but I do get the impression that you are very good with numbers and that if there is a way to do it, you will. It might take a few days to figure it out, but you will. Even if it means a bit more Ebaying. (:()

Best of luck and lots of hugs. x

Sorry to hear about the car IMDs...it's so hard at times.I can totally relate to the large debt and buying cars whilst trying to clear it as I've had to buy two in the last 3 years!!!
Life does get in the way of debtbusting sometimes ...it is a long journey.
I won't pass comment on the DMP route as Hypno has already wrote a very good post on the subject.Whatever you feel comfortable with is the best way I think myself.
