I have just had Lasek eye surgery to one eye. 10 years ago I had Lasik done in Cape Town as my contact lenses didnt help any more and in my job I was alternately reading and looking into the distance so glasses were a nightmare, and it was heaven after the surgery. Now 10 years on and back in England I found I couldnt see well enough to drive after dark as the original surgery had given me mono-sight (one eye distance, one for reading). Now I can drive any time and use reading glasses. Went to Optical Express in Cheltenham - great and after care is great.
  • Any one have any information good or bad on Laser Eye Surgery?

I have -5.50 in both eyes and wear contact lenses from rise to just before bed, and am considering corrective surgery.

Any views on companies used, results, after effects?

    Thank you

Anybody of mature years with relatively high prescription used Ultralase (pref Nottingham) and can give me an opinion on their efficacy?

If you are mature you will still need to wear reading glasses after surgery.

I know I'll still need specs for reading.

    Eyes are -8.75 and -7.25

Had consultation and have enough cornea depth for 'recommended' lasik wavefront.

Slightly concerned re. 'dry eyes' and 'night vision'.

Trying to more impartial views if poss.

I've read through several forums to get background both of the process and personal experiences - not sure how impartial the latter are however.

Wondered if anyone had opinions specifically on Ultralase.

I'm -8.50/-7.50 and have used daysoft daily disposables for years. I find them the perfect solution. A relative had laser eye surgery and had complications. He had to go back at last once for re treatment and has star burst issues with night vision. Remember, once done,it cant be undone. If you are determined to have it done seek plenty of independant expert opinions, not those of the laser clinics !

Thanks - however it seems the more research you do the more conflicting opinions you get. Only independant advice is to be careful and it's not as clearcut as clinics would haveyou believe.

But the on other side clinics don't want shedloads of patients with problems as that would do them no good in longrun.

Seems to be a lack of independantly audited stats which is bad considering there have been several hundred thousand treatments.

Personally I know 3 or 4 people who've had them done and are pleased however, looking at a number of independant forums shows that not everything is as hunky dory as the providers would have you believe.

That's why I was interested if anyone had recent, personal knowledge of Ultralase.

Wore C/Ls for 20 years however can't wear them anymore as for some bizarre reason, about 5 yrs ago they started causing irritation - might be, in my case an aging thing or change in consistency of tearing.
  • Hi All

I noticed a half price offer for Optimax on The Sun online (although the link hasn't reappeared yet!).

I had actually booked to have mine done at Jimmy's last year but they only offer certain days (Friday and Tuesday) so means both me and partner taking the day off work to get it done. Anyway they lost a piece of equipment so ended up being a wasted day - they were totally unapologetic and don't really feel like going back! However the surgeons do seem to have a good reputation.

Has anyone used Optimax? I've heard people say that the commercial ones aren't as good although have also heard good things.....am trying to save like mad for other things at the mo but half price does seem a very good offer - plus I need new specs soon and with my rubbish eyes the lenses are pretty expensive if I don't want them bottle bottom thick.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    C xxx
