Amelia...I wonder what the degree of astigmatism is? Some practitioners wioll discount astigmatism when prescribing depending on the degree and position. It might actually be possible that you could get by with ordinary lenses? It is also possible to fit a long distance lens in one eye and a closer distance lens in the other and your brain sorts out the difference!
Perhaps you should obtain a re-assessment before making the big leap? I have a tendancy to use long established independent practitioners rather than the big chains.0 -
I am 49 next month - though I don't look it in candle light.
I have just started to need readers but only off the shelf at the moment so they have slightly reduced the strenght of my left lense to make things a bit easier. Don't know about the degree of astigmatism.
It's just the whole palarver of putting the lenses in every day and putting them into the solution every night that's getting on my nerves now and as I am in a position, for the first time in my life, to possibly be able to afford the surgery I started thinking about it.We don't stop playing because we grow old; We grow old because we stop playing.0 -
If you want to read about astigmatism look at http://www.londonvisionclinic.com/eye-conditions/astigmatism-correction.php
Two of my neighbours had it done there. They said they had free consultations and met the surgeon rather than a sales person. It is very expensive there though - I know places like Optimax are cheaper.
Although if I had you prescription I wouldn't bother. Mine is -7.500 -
Hi, Had my laser surgery (intralase lasik with wavefront) yesterday at Optical Express. I was -1.75 with anstigmatism in both eyes, and had very steep corneas.
Was very painful when the anasetic started wearing off after about 10 to 15 mins. Would recommend having pain killers with you to take as soon as you get out of surgery! Also, was glad I had been warned about the smell, even though it only lasted a couple of seconds for each eye.
Had check up today, no pain, vision is already 1 line better than 20/20 vision, and will probably get better.
Very pleased after wearing glasses and contacts for over 20 years.:T:hello:0 -
Does it correct poor eyesight purely caused by ageing? Is there an age limit that they will treat with laser surgery? I would love to throw the glasses away:TStopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0

I expressed an interest in laser eye surgery about 2 years ago, then changed my mind. Ever since, I have been receiving info from them with their latest deals. Each one better than the preceding one. The last one (delay payment 2 years, interest free 2 years) caught my interest and I made an appointment. The total cost would have been £3,500. After some thought, I decided against it again. Two weeks later, the clinic called me and said there was a further special discount and they had knocked £700 off total cost!!
I still am against the procedure, but thought I would pass this information on to others who might be considering it.
The moral of the story is - hang off and wait to see just how much money
you can get off!!
Good luck!0 -

Have many of you had laser eye surgery for vision correction. I have found a clinic in turkey offering laser for 700 euros for both eyes.Is it a risk?is it a risk worth taking?here in cyprus its around 3-4000 euros, in uk around 2-3000 pounds.0

Definitely get it done in the UK, and not abroad, in case of any complications where you may need to go back. it may seem cheaper doing it abroad in the short term but if anything goes wrong thats a bigger risk to take.
I've looked into it and been told I'm not eligible for surgery.Owing to financial constraints, the light at the end of the tunnel has been switched off until further notice.
