The opthalmist who did my laser treatment had had it done, so not all of them are against it...I can't answer for your opthalmist maybe he likes his specs?
Have all dentists had procedures to give them perfect teeth? Do all cosmetic surgeons look 25?
As I said in my post each to their own, it worked for me and I would do it again without a doubt.0 -
The evidence about long term success and complications is not there. Until I see 20 year outcomes I would not subject myself to an 'elective' procedure.
I do not know a single ophthalmologist who's had it done.
Would be interested to put this into context, how many opthalmists do you know?
Do you know anyone who has had laser surgery and how successful was it?0 -
If you read the links on my previous post you will see that Russell Ambrose the owner of Optimax says
'I had laser treatment 15 years ago, my wife 13 years ago and my son 4 years ago, all in my own clinic

The OP asked for '' some basic advice - those that have had it done, is it really worth it, and how bad is it to go through? any recommendations on who / how to approach is appreciated.''
I would recommend Optimax because I went to them and they were brilliant,
I just wish I'd had the treatment years ago
Since I had my eyes done, more than 20 of my freinds and family have also been to the Manchester clinic and they have all been really pleased with the treatment and resultsThe object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane — Marcus Aurelius0 -
I am toying vaguely with the idea of laser eye surgery as I am fed up with wearing contact lenses. Long term it will save me money and I have seen somewhere advertising interest free credit.
Trouble is I am a terrible wuss and the thought of it makes me cringe plus I am concerned about the fact that it is not always 100% effective and occasionally there are post operative problems/damage.
My eye sight isn't so bad, I think -.1.50 and -1.75 (bilateral astigmatisms) but bad enough that I need corrective lenses at all times.
Can anyone put my mind at rest regarding
-the chances of it not working
-the likelihood of post operative problems
-and most of all how horrible it is/is not to actually have it done?
Thanks. We don't stop playing because we grow old; We grow old because we stop playing.0 -
I had my eyes done over 10 years ago. Mine were really bad, the maximum they did at the time. I was also terrified of having it done, but it was not painful at all. They put drops in the eyes and you dont feel a thing. Funny burning smell though!
BUT after I had the first eye done, I was in agony, due to my eyes being very sensitive, but I had it done at a hospital and so they called the consultant in to check it the next day. I had no problems with the second eye, which was done weeks later. I now have great vision, apart from the usual getting older stuff!
It was the best thing I have ever done. Saved a fortune on contact lenses and lotion too. I think it is important that you check the qualifications of who is doing it and make sure there is plenty of backup just in case. I dont think they can guarantee what the results will be but I am sure things have improved a lot since mine were done. I think some people get blurry eyes when driving at night.
Good luck and I hope it works out well.0 -
Hi Ameliarate-great name BTW
Your amount of correction is quite trivial,it just looks worse than it is ! I'm -8.50/-7.50 and they have the dog on order.
Do you use daily disposables?
Have you checked out https://www.daysoft.co.uk
For now, laser coreection is a no no for me due to the level of correction which IS possible but i dont fancy it AND the fact that i get on fine with my dailies so it works well for me at the mo.0 -

I use monthly disposables - toric lenses- I understood that I had to because of the astigmatisms.
I am just sick of having to put them in every morning and sometimes if I am tired of you get something in your eye they get sore and lately have been having problems with the left one particularly because it could do to go up a bit but when they tired it made it far more difficult for me to see the computer etc. I just feel if I had them done, although I am having to start to wear readers, it would be a relief from all the fiddling with lenses, solutions etc.
Oh andFunny burning smell though! We don't stop playing because we grow old; We grow old because we stop playing.0 -
Bit like burning hair smell, and it feels like they are prodding you in the eye between squirting liquids in. I had it done and never regretted it, but it is surgery and has risks. You don't give your age, but when you hit your 40s, assuming a reading add of +1.50, you will not need reading glasses just at the time everybody else does. I'm 42 and will need readers in a couple of years.Been away for a while.0
