  • Last time I looked, the local Police force would not accept anyone who had ever had laser eye surgery - full stop. It may be worth checking, if you haven't done it already, that it is acceptable to the Ambulance Service she is going to work for.

HII had laser eye surgery at Ultralase about 15 months ago, sooooooo glad I did, it cost about 3,500 I think, got interest free credit as well its about 70quid a month....Had a bit of an infection in my left eye but alls good now, best thing I ever did.Was recently taken to hospital they thought it was a brain haemorage???, and when I told the consultant I had laser eye surgery he took a good look at my eyes and said he could not tell anything had been done to them!Go for it I say!

Has anyone had laser eye surgery where one eye is corrected to see close up for reading and the other eye for distance vision? That is what has been suggested to me, but would be interested to hear of anyones experience. Thanks

Hi there ive had laser eye correction, but not monovision. my presc was -3.00 ish now its 0.00. i assume your presc is near sighted not short sighted, am i correct ? if not have you been recommended monovision due to other factors, my near vision is perfect, although i will expect to have reading glasses in my 40s as your eyesight naturally changes even after surgery (im 38 now)

its the best thing ive ever done by the way !

    regards

Thanks seraphin nice to hear how pleased you are with your eye correction surgery.
Mine is for reading although I need a slight prescription for distance too. A bit worried how my eyes would adjust to one eye being corrected for reading and one for distance, and how mid vision would be - I spend all day working on the computer.

My eyes are like this naturally because they are so different that the brain can't put the pictures together. I find that one eye is dominant and it's difficult to look out of the other one. If I shut the dominant eye, I can see through the other one but it's a strain to do it.

Do they think you will be able to switch between eyes easily?

    Dont do it.....

My DH was persuaded to go down this route and I had my reservations but he assumed they knew what they were doing. He was wrong, his eyes have never been right since, in fact he still wears glasses with one clear lens now, and he will need the other one doing soon. Better to have them done together imo.

I understand that it is quite common to have contact lenses made like this, perhaps that would be a good way to test it out having contacts made with one for distance and one for close up?

I had mine done last July with Optimax. No problems with the operation, no hassles afterwards.

I didn't sign up for the surgery straight after the consultation and left it a couple of months in the hope that they would offer me a deal, which they did. In the end I got the premium package (flap cut with lasers rather than blade and wavefront treatment) for half price (about £890 per eye) and was still allowed to pay over 12 months with 0% interest. If they hadn't offered me 50% off I was planning on the having the cheapest option but that made it a virtually free upgrade.

I'll never know whether the cheaper option would have been as successful or painless.
