  • hi
i have had laser surgery, had mine done at Optimax in Leeds, found them to be very professional, would not hesitate to recommend them. i waited years before finally deciding to go ahead with the surgery as i was worried about things going wrong and wanted to wait until there had been a few years worth of procedures done in case any problems showed up.........i had my left eye done in MAY 2005 and my right one in October 2005, the following year my husband had both his eyes done and I am paying for my son to have his eyes done in a few weeks. it is the best thing i have ever had done, after 17 years of wearing glasses i was back to 20/20 vision and my eyesight is still as good now 5 years later as when the surgery was performed. have never regretted having it done and am very pleased with the service we recieved at Optimax.

Has your presription been stable for at least 3 years? The under 21 rule is used by some companies as young people's eyes are rarely stable. If its been changing, it will continue to change after the surgery and you could need glasses again in a couple of years.

Most say 1 year, my prescription has been stable for at least 2 (hard to say exactly as specsavers could never get the part for my astigmatism right and I was having new glasses every 6 months, none of which corrected my sight right - but I digress  It's mostly that which the surgery could help, my actual shortsightedness isn't overly bad), most of my changing happened before puberty! :D

Swinging further towards Optical Express anyway, not 100% yet just from reading I think they're winning so far.

    Thanks :)

Can you get lazer for an astigmatism now? Specsavers never seem to have good reviews from anyone I have seen who went to them- I'd be concerned they are just saying "its the same as last time" to pass the buck and then altering at your request. Be careful- you only get one set of eyes!

That's why I changed from specsavers to.... ASDA! Who have done brilliantly for me.

Yep you can get astigmatism fixed now :D

I used Optimax in Leeds and it was the best money I have spent, however, now I am getting older and needing to wear reading glasses, has anyone had laser surgery to replace reading glasses?

    Hi Littlerat

I was treated (Ultralasik with Wavefront) by Ultralase just over 4 years ago. My treatment cost around £1500 per eye, and I had no problems immediately after the op, or until fairly recently.

I'm actually going back to Ultralase on Thursday for a review appointment to see if I can be retreated, as one of my eyes has deteriorated by only 0.5 but it gives me really bad headches due to eye-strain. They think this might have been due to being treated when my prescription hadn't quite stabilised, and I was 25 when I was treated.

Ultralase have been fab all the way along, I can't fault them at all, and to the best of their knowledge at the time, my prescription was stable, I took along 3 years worth of eye appts (all the same) and has been to see them for a consult 4 years prior, when I was 21, so they had a lot of history to review.

The lifetime guarantee is definitely worth factoring in, as if I am suitable for retreatment, I won't be paying for it this time, which is big bonus!!!

Also, Ultralase have their own forum (lasereyeforum dot com) where you can read good and bad reviews of the company.

Just wanted to share my opinion :)

I can only speak from experience, i had lasik wavefront with intralase last july with oe, excellent service, and the aftercare now is a lifetime one not 12 months.

I would seriously avoid making a decision on price, and see how you fell with the service etc, also i waited years to have this done as your eyes change so much in your twenties.
