Wahey! I'm off work for 6 1/2 weeks now. It's unpaid leave, to settle the little man into school properly and to cope with the short days that they do at first.
I've been to the library and have the river cottage cookbook, and a traditional bread recipe book to occupy me. I also have the house of clutter to sort out. Ds still has virtually every toy he's ever been given, and he is 5 in November. Hopefully, his toy stash will receive a severe pruning while he is at school. My plan is to bag the things I think we don't need, and anything he hasn't asked for after 6 months can go.
We're making cakes this morning as my friend who has had meningitis is coming to lunch with her little girl.
Good luck to all those waiting for GCSE results. Take care all of you.0 -

That's easy for you to say - you weren't the one lactating :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
Morning folks. Weather has changed and definitely autumn. Saying that, I still woke up hot in the night .
No gardening for me today as I managed to almost snip the top of my finger off yesterday cutting a branch:eek:. Have 2 'snip' cuts but they don't join up, whew. I had was on my own so I just sang loudly to myself, went in and had some lemonade then had a look at it. Blimey it was sore.
Need to clean the bathroom this morning then off to meet a friend for the afternoon so that will be nice.
Tea tonight will be something quick- scrambled eggs on toast or something like that. This month has had extra expenses and I'm determined to stay within the grocery budget as much as poss. Think I've slipped over the edge of it but we had my sister and her DH staying for a weekend and I ended up buying a load for that. But it was lovely to see them and everything was eaten!
Ok, wittering on here so off to have a shower and start the day (yes it is half past 8 and I'm a bit lazy today!)

Good Morning Everyone
Tired-mum - so sorry to hear about your car hope eventually the culprit gets caught/comeuppance (sp)
Molly - hope the op goes well
WMF - perhaps gloves next timehope you heal asap.
Overcast here in Essex again, I think too that the summer has gone. Once the spiders have done the business & retreated back into the woodwork I really love Autumn :j. Kids are starting to get depressed about going back to school but I am :j:T cant wait to get back into routine. The summer plays havoc with my menu plan so will be much more organised over the next few months.
Enjoyed Economy Gastronomy again last night although am not the biggest fan of salmon. I do want to fit more fish into my menu plan though as both the kids love it. Will have a look into the fishmongers in the next village - never been in there before.
Business has been mad the last 3 weeks since we changed contracts, once we are into September will be able to do costings properly - I think we will have a deficiet but then can start adjusting things & turning it around - doesnt help that with the fuel duty increased next week our fuel costs will increase by a minimum of £50:mad:
Anyway I digress - OS today - Roast Lamb in the slow cooker all day then finished off in the Remoska will be bunging in rosemary and garlic so the house will smell lovely. Will have roasties, carrots, & homegown beans & marrow with it - am getting hungry now. Will maybe get some ironing done but think may take kids to see Aliens in the Attack at our local (cheap) independant cinema.
Best get off now, have a great day.x
Oh - nearly forgot - Good Luck to those picking up their GCSE results today.0 -
Morning all:j
A bit overcast here, but 'next door' has just hung her washing out and she's generally reliably informed about the weather so will give mine a go:rotfl:
My sister moves house today, from a lovely Brighton seafront flat to a blooming luverly little cottage not far from Hastings. I'm soooooo envious - I'm still waiting for my exchange/completion date. Into week 20 now since I 'sold'
My niece gets her results this morning - she is expected to do well but you never know, do you?
wmf - ouchy!
molly - will be thinking of Squeaky. These things are always a big deal in my household too!
Pen - gorgeous piggy!
nic - glad you are starting to feel better
tiredmum - sorry to hear about the car. You must be seething....
Essex - I loved that family last night, they seemed to be constantly smiling. But £420 per week on food:eek::eek::eek::eek:
Must pop out for milk today. Since kids have been in France, I have had so many NDS's - now I know where all my money goes:rotfl: Will also pop into the estate agents to see if there is any news on the house front. Had a big scare yesterday as all parties informed me that the FTB had gone AWOL - nobody could contact him at all!
Have a good day whatever you have planned

Went in to work again, but only did the bare minimum, I have a huge bruise on my shoulder from moving a shelf unit so I could get to my machine, my lightswitch has been moved to outside the room & my wall sockets are hanging lose from the ceiling!
WM & DW both on, today's plans include blitzing the en-suite.
Lamb chops for tea tonight with new pots.
Have a good day.
Hugs Hester

Grrrrr just got to have a moan.
My H was wearing his shoes in kitchen and we noticed that he was leaving little piles of sand around the place (no idea where it's come from). He then says "oh I noticed some more in the bathroom".
Not only has he left sand there but in the living room, up the stairs, landing and some of the bedrooms. So all the vaccing I did yesterday has had to be cat licked again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why didn't he FGS take his ruddy shoes off? I guess it don't matter if you're not the one who has to clean it up :mad:
Sorry rant over. Normal service will resume.......I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

Never had the pork SC yesterday, DIL rang and asked us over for Dinner so its the Pork for Dinner tonight. DGS is doing so well and growing so fast, ooo he's lovely :A
OH is out doing some running repairs for a friend, so I have the day to myself :T
So the plan is.... anything I fancy doing, and some essentials like cleaning the bathroom and utility, sweeping all the leaves up outside and dead heading the baskets, pots and trough.
Washing's on the line the last load has just finished so that can go out next.
tired mum - what an awful mindless thing to do, hope he is caught
nic - glad you're feeling a bit better today
wmf - nasty hope it heals quickly
Molly - poor squeak hope all goes well, it was always a big thing in our household too when DS1 and 2 were young
Welcome Winnie nice to see you
Fingers crossed for all getting results today.
I missed the Gastronomy programme last night, bit miffed but will get it on catch back.
Have good days all
