OS Daily Thread Thurs 27th August

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Thursday 27th August! It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good

    Good Morning all:D
Did ya miss me? Well cant remember tje last time i started a daily thread but seeing as i have only had a few hours sleep and have been waiting for someone else i thought i would get the ball rolling.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL THOSE COLLECTING GCSE RESULTS TODAY:j
I have had a lovely holiday on the broads and OH took me for a lovely lunch of Cromer crab and salad for my birthday last week I have bought DD1 home early to collect her results this morning got in at about 11pm and my lovely neighbour has left me a great big basket of candle goodies.
The sad/angry bit of news is that she also told me my next door but one neighbour had his car covered in paint stripper so went out to check OHs car with a torch and guess what his had been done too frightning thing is it was parked on the back garden behind 6ft gates it unfortunatly confirms who the culprit is but again there is no proof I have reported it to the police and someone is coming out this morning so we will see but we wont be claiming as it was only insured third party fire and theft but will probaably be written off:mad: only goes back and forth to OHs work 10 miles away so very little mileage
Anyhoo enough mioliering from me hope you are all well and that you have had a good fortnight
Speak soon have a good day

    Morning.

Cloudy here in Cornwall. Summer hols almost to an end and it's been pretty much a washout.
Gales most of the day yesterday, so I turfed out 2 black sacks of my clothes and they went to the cancer hospice shop. Managed to find an almost new Superdry T-shirt for £2, so bought that. It will do for one of the kids as Superdry does not fit me to good. Too tight fitting for my liking.
Got the kids uniforms for school, and a bit of stuff in Tesco. The old clubcard points sure mount up these days with bonuses etc. Must cash mine in for double wine vouchers and stock up for Christmas before the offer ends.

Not sure what to do today. May be a train ride somewhere.....

Tiredmum Sorry to hear about the car. Mindless vandalism is one of the worst crimes and the hardest to catch people.

    Cheers

    Morning everyone.

Tired mum - I don't know your past history but who do you think has done that to your poor car??

Bit of a quiet day here. I want to make some biscuits (didn't get chance yesterday) and a bit of gentle housework. Need to get some milk and more bananas (we always run out by the end of the week but I need to have some in for Fridays as my mindee likes banana and it's a good mid morning snack for the kids).
It's quite bright here although no idea what the forecast is. Probably more of the wet stuff.
I bought even more tupperware (from Morrison - thanks Diva ;)) to cater for weevil infested cupboards. I found another two this morning so I trying tissue soaked in neat bleach, squashed will into the tiny tiny cracks where my cupboards fit together and see if that kills them off. Kitchen is going to stink but needs must.

Hugs to those that need them.
Have a good day OS or not.

    Morning :hello:

Thriftlady, good idea about the book tokens, I'll see if I can find someone to do a swap with :T
Tired mum, sorry to hear about the car, this sort of thing makes me soooooo mad. Some people need shooting. Bit extreme I know, but I've got a bee in my bonnet (love that saying!) at the mo, and that's how I feel about some people.

We have to eat something out of the freezer today, if we don't then a load of rhubarb is going to have to head straight for the compost  We have 2 freezers, how can we have filled them already?

I made a bucket full of laundry gloop yesterday, that should keep us going for a while. I have washing drying all over the house, there's no point putting it on line because of the rain. I'm toying with the idea of putting the heating on for a couple of hours, with the amount that needs drying it'll be much cheaper than user the dryer.

The berlotti beans are ready for picking so we're about to try making HM baked beans. Wish me luck :D

Big thanks to cookie54, she offered me a book she thought I might be interested in :T

    Hi Guys,
Good luck to everyone getting GCSE results. We have a year off this year but my third son is due next year. Ihope everyone gets what they need but if they dont remember it is not the end of the world and they can easily resit - as my kids have!!

I have a worrying day today as our Guinea Pig is having her eye removed. Its been an ongoing saga for 6months. My son is very worried as he thinks she will die. He automatically thinks this ever since he had emergency open heart surgery when he was younger. It must have really affected him at the time. Anyway he is devoted to his guinea pigs and has already lost one at Christmas. So please keep your fingers crossed and send up a prayer for Squeak because its a big deal in our household today.

Well hope everyone has a good day. Really sorry to hear about the car.
    Love,
    Claire
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
  • Good morning everyone - I've been awake since 4am (bad dreams involving meerkats, huge dogs, lactating  and traffic lights on hills  ). DD is sanguine about GCSE results, but I'm now in a state :o Roll on 9:30 ..................
Good luck to all students and parents with results today!

I can heartily recommend the Tightwad Gazette :T I have mine next to my bed, atm, and dip in each evening :D

The garden in a veritable larder just now - we're eating plums, beans, carrots, peas, sweetcorn, cucumber, tomatoes, apples (eating and cooking), lettuce. The swedes are coming ripe, so if the cooler weather continues, the Rayburn will be on and we'll be having soup and roasted roots  My menu plan still has summer written all over it, though :)

Off to have some coffee, see you all later, Penny. x

Well its not raining so thats a good start:T:T
I hope that i find you all well this morning.

My wife is just getting ready for for. so iv got the girls for a couple of hours this moring.
Dont have any plans for when she gets back might pop out some were to do a bit of chopping.

We have decided to go down the caravan this weekend for a long weekend. being bank hoilday.
Tomorrow iv also got to go to my pathways to work thing agin if you remember thay canciled my last one on the morning thta i was meant to have it. That was about 2 weeks ago.

I had a look at the toms that im growning yesterday evening. The cherry ones are doing well and we have alredy had a few off there. The others are ok igess:confused: No 2 off them already there are some green ones still on.
But i also tryed them beef toms this year. Well needless to say not very beefy! but thay are starting to turn red so will have to see what thay taste like.

Onions well thay have been a totel wash out! i dont even know what to say about them but i will say this a old bloke that i know planted onions this year thay have have not grown just the same as mine. Well both our onions sets have the another thing in common thay both came from wilkensons. The same branch too.
So i shall try onions again next year but i speend a littkle bit more than 99p on them and get them from somwere else and give them ago. Iv bot lost much but it dose seem that you have to spend on them to get anything back.

Well last night we ended up having a take away insted off cooking long story!.
So im hoping to to have a bit of fish tonight for dinner.

Lunch will be cheese and crackers will some pickles for me.

Well i hope that you all have a great day
and if you or you Kids are getting there GCSEs today then i wish you/them the very best!:T:T:T:T:T:T:T

Ironing is top of my list of things to do today -blergh!

Lunch will be sandwiches or cheese and crackers or leftover pie.

Supper tonight will be chorizo hash plus fried eggs (red peppers and onions in the hash).
