HTC Hero Best Plan

I just went to purchase it from mobiles.co.uk - but because I haven't lived in the same address for >3 years (just migrated from Australia) the order was cancelled.0

Hey guys...had a play with the HTC hero today as had my eye on it for a while. Got a really good deal where I'd get it for free on my current contract with orange (currently pay about 16 p/m) + £5 /m for internet...almost jumped at the chance, but found I had real issues with the on-screen keyboard and kept hitting the wrong keys. Is this something I'll likely adjust to over time, or should I just accept defeat and look for another phone? The G-1 would be perfect for me, but it's not on Orange - typical! lol.0

I'm not sure if this is the case for you but it can take a while to get used to touch screen typing compared to buttons. It took me a while on my iphone but I'm now used to it although cannot type as fast as with buttons. Also on the Hero you can calibrate the keyboard, not sure what this does exactly but it should make the typing easier for your style.0 -
thanks gavin_fran. I have an LG Viewty at the moment, which is totally touch screen, but you have to use nails and not fingers, whereas the Hero is the complete opposite and doesn't respond to a tap from the fingernail. Really tempted by the offer, as the android phones really intrigue me...0

Took me a few days to get used to it but I can now type pretty quickly with it (the spellcheck/suggest is great)
If you go to menu > settings > locale and text > touch input > text input there's a calibration tool you can use. try that0 -
Okay, update - I got the phone . Keep my same line rental (£16 odd per month), and managed to get the handset for free, plus they gave me £30 to trade in my old Viewty, which wasn't bad going at all . Still getting used to the texting, but hopefully I'll get the hang of it! Appreciate all the advice I got from here - you guys are great!0
