HTC Hero Best Plan

Hey,

I'm looking to buy a HTC Hero and was wondering what you would recommend to be the best 18mth plan to go on? I'd really only need about 150 texts / 150mins and mobile internet included.

So far using quidco to get £40 cash back and sticking to orange seems to be the best plan of action - which online store provides the best option though?

Cheers

plenty of options here on T-mobile through mobilephonesdirect.

150 min & 200 min plans with texts & tinternet on 12 & 18 mth contracts and car kit but you have to pay abit for the phones.

No Quidco but mobilephonesdirect have just appeared on TopCashBack with £30 for contracts.

    HTH.

I just got one from mobiles.co.uk (arrived yesterday)

    18 month contract on Vodafone:
    Free phone (brown, brand new)
    100 minutes
    500 texts
    unlimited data*

£30/mo but if you choose the 6 months half price cashback** it works out at £25/mo

I also used Quidco, which supposedly gets you £40 but I haven't seen it yet. I emailed them and they said they allow 14 days before looking into it.

    * the "unlimited" internet has a 500mb fair usage policy, but apparently Vodafone don't mind if you go over a little. Also, my friend who has had an iPhone for a few months has only used ~350mb in total, and he uses the internet a lot, so that should be fine.

** to get the cashback, you pay the full month, but then send a bill to them, and they give you the money back. apparently, a lot of people have bad experiences with this, but when you get the phone, ask them to tell you exactly what bills to send, and when to send them, and you should be fine. Also, if you have any problems, 99.9% of the time they'll be on the internet somewhere.

You also get a free month of phone insurance (£7.99) and gadget helpline (£2.99). Cancel these straight away, as I'm not sure about phone insurance, but mine is covered on our home insurance anyway, and gadget helpline charge you in 6 month blocks or something, so if you don't cancel straight away, you might end up being charged a lot for something you don't want. I rang up both and cancelled today in minutes with no problems.

P.S. I know it may look like I work for mobiles.co.uk/Carphone Warehouse, but I don't. The reason I know so much is that this is my first contract phone, and works out at £450 (with half price months cashback), so I did a LOT of research before I ordered it.

Also, the Hero is an amazing phone, I love it.
  • I went for an identical Vodafone contract with minutes/texts/internet to LooieENG through mobilephonesdirect (except the hero was in white not brown). Fantastic service.

And just out of curiosity: does the wifi count towards the 500mb data limit? If it doesn't then if you can get to a wifi spot it would make sense to use that instead of the 3G, you'll use a lot less of the allowance.

I've had my Hero for about a week now and hands down is the best phone I've had, you'll love it. Good luck with your choice!
  • I'm approaching the end of my T-Mobile contract and am eyeing up the HTC Hero too. I've seen a deal at an independent which is at a tarriff I'm happy with and would involve paying £31.99 for the phone, however the independent (Mobile Phones Direct) do upgrades, so I'm considering seeing if T-Mobile will go for letting me upgrade with the independent, as I'd imagine my retention allowance must cover the £31.99. But I'm new to this lark, so I've no idea. I'll see what T-Mobile can offer me to just upgrade through them first.

The Wifi should not be a chargable/ductable cost as the Wifi supplier will be paying for the broadband, not you, and you are just using it- same as plugging into the router.

Yes indeed, the Hero isthe best phone I've owned- And I last had a heavily tweeked Touch HD.
  • hi all

I'm getting tempted to buy one! Are mobile phones direct a reputable company?

Guess I didn't do enough research! I would've liked the white phone lol. I think it has that screen coating to prevent smudges doesn't it?

Also, I'm pretty sure WiFi doesn't count towards the 500mb.

Best phone I've ever had as well
