I`ve been to both of the places and would recommend them and have done so to friends in the past.
The cabins are amazingly warm too.Be wary of what you wish for..such wishes oft come true in the most unexpected of ways!0 -

thanks for the advice
was a bit concerned about the cabins being roveniemi, as poe.tuesday had said that its a city, so i was assuming it might not be so tranquil and remote as the pics of the cabins give off...Please take the time to have a look around my Daughter's website www.daisypalmertrust.co.uk

Hi there again Inspector Monkfish,
Well, without wishing to open up a can of worms, rovaniemi is really quite good fun.
The cabins are part of the Sky hotel, and if memory serves me well enough I think its about 3 to 3 and a bit killometres to Rovaniemi town centre, and of course, you will also find the father christmas post office down the hill too!.
This is one of those trips (I mentioned before I think) that you can do on your own and stay for ages at the post office, the shops there, there are some food places all in the same place..I should liken the post office area with all those amenities like a small open air shopping mall I suppose?
Any way back to the Sky, both the hotel, and the cabins are NOT in the town centre, its up the ounsvarran hill and that just a few feet, steps whatever..from the Ounasvaara skiing centre, its not just skiing by the way, my son did snowboarding, we did tobogganing which was a laugh, and had a long looong run so that was a blast!
There is also a place to get hot snacks and drinks there too in the purpose built ski centre.
Back to the hotel and the cabins, there are loads of trees that get covered in snow and look soooo picturesque, there was also a Kota I can remember somewhere in the grounds, ( for those that don`t know what one is, its a teepee style tent, although some can be built in wood, they are shelters and have burners inside ect)
The airport as well as the train station are about 10 to 15 minutes away from the skiing centre and thus the cabins or hotel.
Oh I forgot to mention, about half way back down the hill there is the Santasport pavillion, I hadnt realised previously that in fact this TOO has accommodation!
And for want of putting up another link to follow heres the santasports place.

thanks so much
is there a bus ride or cab ride that can take you from the cabins/hotel into the town centre where the post office is?Please take the time to have a look around my Daughter's website www.daisypalmertrust.co.uk

Its funny, I was looking for some pictures and am still doing so, if and when I find them I`l post them up for you to see, I`l have to put them on my website so that`l be another link I`m afraid but it might be fun to see for you.
On a time we went there without a car, we took a taxi from the airport to the hotel, it didnt take long but I can`t remember if we thought it expensive? I suspect it might be around Euros 10.00 ish?
Oh. just had a look on You Tube and found this by someone, its not one of those advertising style videos, but it gives you a look around the post office area if not make you a tad dizzy at the same time..eek...
But whats nice is the fact that you can see a bit more of the post office area that I was talking about.
youtube.com/watch?v=ZoLFgfNX8tQ&feature=fvw
pikakuljetus.com/ bus number 8 stops /goes to santa village home of the post office.
When you get to this website there are links click the says Rovaniemi - Napapiiri
You should also look up Rovaniemi airport as that gives you a lot of advice and ways to get from the airport ect.
I hope this has been of some help.Be wary of what you wish for..such wishes oft come true in the most unexpected of ways!0 -

For the poster who said they probably had just 2 days holiday entitlement this year ... no problemo! Go on a day trip!!! *L*
Nope, I am not kidding you! ... for my 35th birthday (yeah, I'm a big kid at heart!!) I went on a day trip to Rovaniemi. We set off from home in the early hours of the morning, flying out from Leeds/Bradford before breakfast .. me, my Mother and a plane full of under 8's and their parents!!!
And do you know, it was wonderful!!! ... you could either go to the huge Santa Village (rather commercialised but if you want to stay warm and have babies with you, then probably the best idea) or, you could do outdoor adventures.
We had husky dog sled rides across a frozen lake, we drove skidoos, had rides in reindeer pulled sleighs and walked through a forest where the trees almost touched the sky, they were so tall!!
By now it was getting dark and imagine our surprise to find Rudolph the red nose reindeer standing beside a little log cabin!! (No, his nose wasn't lit up .. apparently it only lights up on Christmas Eve ... *winks*) ...
Anyway, we all piled inside and met Santa .. the real one I will have you know!! Not some silly supermarket Santa wearing the wrong coloured wellington boots ... there were lots of elves and we drank warm reindeer milk flavoured with cinnamon ... we learned all about the traditions of the Lappish people ... it was marvellous.
When we went back outside, you could hardly count the stars in the sky because there were so many of them ... and the frost on the snow .. it was magical ... it shone like diamonds.
The temperature was minus 25 degrees celsius and if you took your hand out of your glove a frost would develop on your hand within seconds!!
So fear not if you haven't the time to go for a week or so ... look into a day trip!! We got home at 3am the following morning and I can honestly say it was the most magical time of my whole life!!!!
I would recommend Rovaniemi to anyone (and they've plenty of snow at the moment, too!!) ... just take some earplugs.
Dear ole Santa gave all the kids a sleighbell as a souvenir and allllllllllllll the way home on the flight the darlings were ringing em ... gggrrrr!!! Ha ha ha!0
