OS Daily Wednesday 26th August

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Wednesday 26th August! It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good
Morning peeps
Cool here in South Yorkshire this morning, little bit of rain but not much overnight and a bit showery at the moment but we don`t yet have the downpours predicted by the met office. Hopefully we can get it all out of the way this morning and have a bit of sun this afternoon - well i can hope anyway
Arm is lots better this morning and is very much on the mend, thanks for the good wishes and thoughts, Esmf73 - I`d never heard of arnica before and i had to google it, thanks very much for the suggestion, i`ve bookmarked the page for future reference.
Tru - lovely to see you posting again, sounds like you are in for a run of good luck! Fantastic news, i wish you all the best in your OS money making ventures *goes green with envy*:D Keep us all up to date!
I picked lots of tomatoes from the greenhouse yesterday, i have tons in the fridge which will soon be cooked down with onions, peppers and garlic to make spaghetti sauce base which i think i shall can, the problem is that i am still desperately short of jars having used mine all up in a few days mad marmalade/jam/chutney making. The cupboard is looking healthy full of lovely hm jars waiting to be labelled but i need more! *stamps foot*
Today the usual bits and bobs have been done already, dishwasher, washing machine and breadmaker, this afternoon i hope to clear the ironing pile which is quite possible as its not out of control yet and then maybe a bit of baking. Depends on the energy levels when i get home but today i seem to be brimming with energy so i`m making lots of plans and lists
Offski to catch up with a bit of w*rk now.
Have a great day peeps and don`t forget your brollies!

Morning everyone.
wow I need to buy a miners helmet! Its so dark this morning I've had to put on the lights. Definately think summer is overIts chucking it down with rain with lots of fast moving cloud so don't think it's really going to improve during the course of the day.
Bit cross as I bought a bag of apples on my way past Aldi yesterday and three of the 8 are on the turn, all wrinkly etc. Its not that easy for me to take them back and complain but I am unsure about buying stuff from there again.
want to ring round some chemists to see if I can get my hands on some castor oil to use in face cleansing. Baked some chocolate biccies round at my mums yesterday and they were really nice so attempting to make some more.
Got Health Visitor coming to see DS this morning so day going to be bit busy when I factor in housework!!!
Still have evil weevils  googled weevils yesterday and read that infestations are hard to shift  A single female can lay 400 eggs  I spent ages heating cupboards with hairdryer and yet some still remain. Fed up with it now. Will have to pop to Morrisons to buy a ton more of tupperware.
Hugs to those that need them.
Have a good day all OS or not.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

Morning. Awoke to gales throwing rain at us. Looks to be a wet day (again) perhaps brighter later.
What to do on a wet day? Hmmmm. I think it may be sort out day. Too many clothes and not enought space. Ruthless clear out for charity shop. If I have not worn it for 6 months...... Out.
Went to the Tortoise place, Got filmed for Ch5 news and they cut my bit out! Thanks Ch5 for wasting part of my day! More intersted in the stolen tortoise being re-united with it's mate.. Funny thing is the shots they used were not even the right tortoises! "The public will never know says the reporter" :rotfl:There is a moral or saying somwhere in all this....
French toast for breakfast, delicious!
Well, have a nice day....NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -

I've had a nightmare few months, would have put my head in the oven but it's electric so it wouldn't have worked  Then I caught swine flu
I visited Moggins last week, she's looking good
Mr tru made several jars of chutney. Actually, he started making chutney but he somehow morphed it into pickle :rotfl: Not entirely sure what he did, but the end result is pretty good, lol. We've also got a few jars of pickled beetroot, and half the stuff in the freezer is homegrown fruit and veg. I've been busy making iced sponges, flapjacks and swiss rolls.
I've been saving cereal boxes for my next project - a homemade card standI can't find exactly what I want from suppliers so cereal boxes and papier mache should be strong enough for a tabletop display
I'm waiting for Harry to lay her 4th egg, then we can have one each for tea today
Is anyone going to the River Cottage Autumn Fair? We're going on sunday 13th, see you thereBulletproof0 -
Today is going to be hell - going on my DS behaviour already!! I'm hoping to get a football table (from freecycle) to keep them busy during the day and then a CD player (from freecycle) to calm them down at night. We'll see!! n
As it is going to be wet I think that I'll be doing lots of cake making inside with my boys. The sticker chart isn't working now for the boys (5 and 3) so any advice gratefully received! Breadmaker on, energy saving lightbulbs in and now I have draught excluders and curtains to make. Any help would be FANTASTIC as I'm very much a beginner on the sewing machine!
Have a lovely day everyone xMe, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
Morning all,
Well Winter seems to have disappeared, forget about Spring, we've slipped straight into Summer. The joy of it all. DGS left today. I took him to playgroup this morning and DS2 dropped him off at his dad's after lunch. We pick him up on Saturday morning and am taking him back. The house seems empty already.
We've got tons of zucchini's from the garden and I've come across a nice recipe to pickle them so I"m going to do that tomorrow. I've got a list a mile long to do as I've put a lot of chores on hold while DGS has been here. So I'll get through all that in the next few days to keep me busy. That and play Jewel Quest lll. Has anybody played it? I'm up to China and it's driving me to drink.
N9eav Somebody told me this hilarious joke about gales the other day. But I can't seem to remember it. I can't even remember who told me. I must be going batty already.
Bitsy They're tough little suckers. Good luck.
Hope everyone's well & happy. Enjoy your day. ByeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeDon't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
Morning all
Hope you are all well.
Well, it's a grey and horrible day down here, but I bit the bullet and drove to work anyway. I don't like driving in the wet, but I need to stop being so nervy. Had a good run in though which was nice, nice and clear (well it usually is before 6am)
I made fudge yesterday and now have several small burns. OH is being very overbearing at the moment (he's always like this when I'm not feeling great, when he just actually needs to leave me alone), so that just made it worse. He doesn't understand how important is is for me to keep as busy as I can and if that means not sitting down, it means not sitting down.
Cauliflower cheese for dinner yesterday (although I stirred some ham into OH's portion). Even the smell of meat and/or milk is turning my stomach at the moment again, but I feel a bit guily altering OHs diet to suit my irrational behaviour _pale_ Not sure what is for tea today. I'll think of something.
N9eav - :rotfl: at the tortoises - it reminds me a bit of the kiddy singing at the olympics, where they chose a what they though was a more pleasing looking child who wasn't actually doing the singing. Sorry you had a wasted day.
Taplady - hugs for you
Tru - wow, that sounds so greatbest of luck with your new venture
Right - must go, have a good day all, cel x:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0 -

Morning All
Overcast here at the moment but the sun is trying to break though.
Its spider season in the Essex house- I had an early night to watch telly - OH's mate came round at 9.30 & where OH turned the lights back on there were 3 ginormous ones in the hall - his mate wouldnt come in till they were disposed of - we do seem to have such big spiders here, hate this time of year.
Anyway scappy day today. Hope to get the last of the school bits sorted included DD's bus ticket. M&S should be delivering school shirts today so will get them washed ironing and labelled.
Need to use some mushrooms up, think its pizza on the menu plan so they will be heavy on the mushroom side methinks.
Have a great day.x0 -
Morning all
Very grey & damp here today, don't worry Stef, it should be dry for the weekend.
I'm absotively, posolutely going to work today, at 8:30, no make it 10:00, sorry try 9:00. I have strict instructions to go in with a positive attitude, it must be bad then, lol, I'm taking a plate of positive chocolate brownies in with me, though it sounds like a stiff gin may be more appropriate, pity I don't drink gin, or anything much.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester
