Good morning everyone  I've been dragged back here by thriftlady, and seeing that Tru is posting too, I might stay longer, for more Old Style chat :jI'm waiting for Harry to lay her 4th egg, then we can have one each for tea today
Get Penny to have a word with her - that'll do the trick :rotfl:
I thought some of you might like a peep at our piglet - she's called Crackling
DD has gone off to Alton Towers today; last trip out before GCSE results tomorrow  DS has asked if we can bake, so we'll be making cranberry brownies, banana fruit cake, bread and a quiche for tea, with vegetables and salad from the garden. My menu-plan is out of the window again, with children changing their plans at short noticeNever mind, it'll be back on track in 2 weeks' time when we're into the work/college/school routine
Have a great Old Style day everyone :j

Hiya all,
I hope today isn't too rubbish for you all; shame about the weather. Especially here, it's horrid.
I have a day off finally! Only 10 days of work to get one (and with only a day left to go before redundancy) but hey. I also have two interviews, I'm well excited. Plus, I'm off to the Isle of Man on Friday evening (I got a good deal on the boat) to see my best friend before she moves to France. I really hope the weather isn't too awful as on Sunday night we're camping over at a friends.
Anyway, I am off to the first of my interviews.. Fingers crossed!"We always find something, hey Didi, to give us the impression we exist?" Samuel Beckett, Waiting for Godot.

Lovely to see you Tru and PP. Great to hear about the OS taking off, Tru. V jealous of the eggs and of course, lovely Harry. Can't see me getting chickens but I can dream.
Plans for today include a trip to Aldi or Lidl. Haven't been for ages as not in my town. However, I'm going to see a friend there who keeps chickens and ducks and has a h u g e garden, full of fruit trees, greenhouse with loads growing in it. She is always such an inspiration.
Tea tonight will be some kind of soup using the chicken stock from Sun's roast bones, then beans on toast. Nice and easy.
Trip to the library at some point as they have my order in - Cold Comfort Farm. Anyone read it?
Hope those who are unwell come back soon and report that they are feeling a bit better. (((hugs)))

Hi all.. i'm new here
i wanted to add to your daily posting, as i find you all so friendly and helpful, and am reading through the threads and getting some wonderful ideas from you all!
My partner is possibly facing redundancy( big meeting tomorrow) so i was thinking of how to save money, and thought of making jams etc for the winter and chimble pressies.. and already today have had an offer on freecycle for a load of jam jars.. fab!
I stay at home with my toddler during the day, so I think i should do more OS money saving and make things.. i have a sewing machine etc, it just all sits upstairs gathering dust!
I bought some reduced fancy wool to make scarves for presents this year too.. so once little one strats preschool i can knit away my mornings while jams bubble away in the kitchen
Sounds like a nice way to spend my child free time!
Thanks for the warm welcomes, and the inspiring tips!:o0 -
morning all!
I am pleased to say DH and I have made up:o:D
Penpen - crackling is gorgeous:T
Halight - good luck with the jam making.
Maitane - good luck with your interviews!
plans for today
clean Mum's house
do meal plan and shopping list
put my feet up with my book:D
I plan on a nice relaxing afternoon as I'm back to work tomorrow and I feel like I need some 'me' time.
A colleague from work is on TV on friday evening on the Hairy Bikers show on BBC2 - she makes organic chutneys and jams from her home grown produce, she was asked to be on Valentine Warner's show but didn't have a big enough harvest for them.
anyway off for a quick browse. Hope you all have a great day x
edited to say welcome to Minxz!Do what you love :happyhear0 -
I want a pig too! When will she be 'ready' Penny?
Looks like the weather's going to be miserable everywhere today. Fortunately there isn't too much laundry to get dry.
I'm planning on making some fruit buns (like hot cross buns without the crosses). I'm trying to bake things for the kids that aren't too sweet or use too much white flour -mostly because I eat too many of those things:o
I'm thinking; plain wholemeal scones, fruit scones, cheese scones, oatcakes, oat bread, wholemeal griddle scones (like Welsh cakes), soda bread. What I would call 'plain baking'
I'm making homity pies for tea. I shall make the pastry with half wholemeal flour I think. Will serve them with sliced tomatoes, sweetcorn and something green.
Lunch will probably be beans on toast.
Have a productive day all;)0 -
Hello:T,
Hope everyone is ok and happy. I logged on to find lots of posts and then realised the time.. Im in a time warp this morning. My eldest son has left for Reading - his dad is taking him and his friends mum is bringing him back so she has got the smelly car this year!!! I had it last year - how times have changed.
I have sold 18 books on amazon and am very happy. I feel an online spending spree at Lakeland coming on!!!!
My old university bookshop might take some too and i will donate the left-overs to the hospital library as they send books to Ghana so am really happy with that.
I really enjoy coming on this thread. Was really sad to read the benefits thread yesterday...some people on there are so unkind and provocative.
Gonna avoid it as it makes me feel sad to think there are people out there who seem to enjoy baiting people who are ill ! (rant over)
Not sure what my plans are - not a lot probably. Have a peacesful day.
Love MollyI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Nice Pig Pen
(see what I did there :rotfl:)
We used to have pigs when I was younger - they were massive Condor (I think) ones & always fighting. I was so glad to see them as chops for dinner one night.....hmm perhaps that is why I love pork so much now. When we had a runt we bought him up in the house for sometime I was 14 & it was very embarassing.
Killing time while DD gets ready to pop into another village for school shoes she takes aaages.0 -
Morning all, Reporting on location
Its raining again , yesterday we spent the day at cheddar, and done all the touristy things, went round the caves, open top bus, and bought lots of cheesewe had a great day :T
Today I am very excited, I am off to meet Mummysaver in Taunton :T:jfor coffee and cakie, cant wait to actually meet someone I have been talking to for months.
Yesterdays tea was some of the delicious cheese from cheddar, with nice crusty bread and pickles, simple but tasty.
Marie, any news on kitty ??
Welcome to the new folk xx
And its nice to see some 'old' posters returning.
Penny, nice piggie xx0 -
Morning everyone :hello:
Tru... :j:j:j Thanks for the pm congratulating me on my first lay. Bit late but never mind  I'm glad that Harry is living up to her namesake and efficiently producing more than one offspring at a time. :rotfl:
Sunnyday... I would second the use of arnica. I use it after my operations and I'm sure it speeds up the healing time.
Good luck Maitaine.
Have fun Mummy saver and Ruby.
Won't be long till you see DGS again Aussie
Am off to the office in a bit to chase up some invoices and update the accounts. Have persuaded OH to take a half day though as he needs a break.
Am ahead of the game though as I was a bit off colour for a few days so stayed at home. Not very good at lying in bed though so I am on top of all the laundry and have deep cleaned the kitchen and utility room.;):D
DW is emptied, Wm on, BM on for dough and YM filled and doing it's thing. Slow cooker is bubbling away with Irish stew for tea. I love it when I leave my utility room doing all my OS work for me when I leave in the morning.Need to make some strawberry and blueberry jam this afternoon before the fruit goes off.
I was probably off colour as the result of having to tell the girls about the birds and the bees at the weekend _pale_:eek: It was very traumatic (for me, not them) and OH and I are now being watched like hawks in case we get up to anything.;):rotfl::rotfl:
Planted out 50 brassica seedlings last night and managed to keep the slugs off them so the veg beds are looking full again after all the recent harvests.
Also got the knitting out again last night and started a couple of knitted bunnies for the girls. I'm very slow but it keeps me out of mischief in the evenings.
Hope everyone is well.
