Afternoon all
Well the rain has eased off now and although still grey, the sky is def lightening up!
Had the most awful nights sleep (or not!) last night, was in bed by about 10, went straight off to sleep then woke 2 hours later, being sick and was awake then until alarm went off at 5. Went into work but was promptly sent home as I was really not fit to be there. Have just got back out of bed but still feel rough, so may just go back again!
Therefore not much OS going on today, I think I will leave them to help themselves for tea, there is plenty of food in.
Hope you all have a good day

One of the recipes I want to try from it is rabbit brawn which will use up the pig's trotters I have in the freezer. There is one recipe that has got me puzzled Scruggin Cake. It was contributed by a lady living in Wales so I wondered if scruggin was a Welsh term.
You need 1 lb of self raising flour, 12oz chopped scruggins, 8 oz sugar and milk and water for mixing. You mix the lot to a dough, roll out an inch thick and bake. I'm thinking that they are either a kind of fruit or maybe it's a dialect word for lard or scratchings? Does anyone out there know what a scruggin is?
As your recipe calls for sugar as well, my guess is it's the fruit'n'nuts you want.
Very little OS happening in the Wolf's Lair today, I'm afraid. My legs and hands have been agony all morning (probably because the weather's changed), and I have the filthiest headache. I went outside to harvest a few more tomatoes and nearly passed out. So I'm taking it easy the rest of the day in the hope that I'll feel better tomorrow.
I hope everyone's having a better day than me:o; ((((HUGS)))) to all who want/need one today. If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Afternoon all,
Very quiet here to-day, just OH and me, mind you he has to have the tv on full blast while he reads the paper.....I did say that while I was at my aunt's birthday party he went with DD3 and bought a 42in tv....bl**dy huge yoke that I wouldn't have in my house if I had even put a cent towards its purchase but he loves it so have to keep my mouth shut!
No sign of Thunder, did all the houses yesterday, nobody has even seen him so am becoming a little despondent...poor Sile is lost without him and demanding affection at all times.
Piece of silverside corned beef on for dinner, will have carrots, cabbage and potatoes, have also started a soup, mainly lentils and tomatoes, as I found 8 soft tomatoes in the fridge this morning, will put half in freezer and eat the rest myself, nobody else here is a great soup fan unfortunately, at least until colder weather. Going to make banana bread with the five rotten bananas on worktop.
I assume that nobody has managed to contact Sunnygirl???
Sorry to hear that you are feeling so bad Lame Wolf and Nic1...and anyone else I have overlooked.
Welcome Minxz, its a nice place to be.
Take it easy FE
Nice to see you back tru.
Hugs to all in need or want...OH has just been into kitchen and beans have burnt to bottom of pot...hadn't put in tomatoes yet so will have another try later on!
Have a good day all

Got lots to do today - loads of lovefilm dvds to watch, a book to read before posting to Green Met buyer , Ugly Betty and Econ Gastron on tv later, jobsearch to write out n collate etc so can't stop long..
Was gonna try making Mac N Cheese for the first time ever today but Mr T had cheap pollock 4 fillets for £1.85 in the YS section so that will do me for 2 lunches and 2 dinners - will cook them 2 at a time on the grill and have the lunch ones cold to save money.
Have a good night all and hope you are all warm n dry, The weather seems to have turned here so I will prob get rained on when I go to catch the last post..What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -
My OH's family are welsh and I'm sure I've had scruggin cake when we've been to his Nans
will ask him when he gets home from work
Been a productive day for me other than I didn't make it into work so that will have to be tomorrow!
Have made:
2 lasagnes
4 portions of chilli
4 portions of bolognaise
4 portions of macaroni cheese
2 chocolate bread puddings (Delias recipe)
dime bar cookies
Choc victoria sponge cake
all for the freezer in anticipation of me going back to work next week
Now all OH will have to do is pop it in the cooker once defrosted so he can't moan at me!

Afternoon All
Pen Pen - Crackling is lovely. I'm so jealous.
Got a full week's work this week and most of next week too, so I'm pretty happy about that, as it's all money coming in. I only had 7 days booked in next month, but that's now jumped to 10, so I'm feeling a bit better, although some of the work will mean 160 mile round trips each day. I've looked into finding somewhere to stay, but that works out more expensive than travelling.
Plum tree is still going strong. So far I've picked 20lbs of fruit and made loads of jam. Freezing a lot of them though. Hoping to raid the hedgerows soon for other goodies to convert in to store cupboard treats.
My Christmas card materials are arriving soon, so I can get on with making those.
Would you believe my bathroom is being fitted tomorrow:eek: I've only been trying to get it done for 10months. I managed to save 38% on my tiles which is a huge help.
Dinner tonight will see the remains of the Sunday roast go in a pot with mushrooms, mushroom soup and be served with rice and asparagus (was on offer in Mr T.)
Hope everyone's okComping, Clicking & Saving for Change0 -

Those of you who have got the Tightwad Gazzette - is it aimed at the USA and if so does it translate well to the UK? I'd had a look on Amazon previously but couldn't decide. Is it worth getting?I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife
