Those of you who have got the Tightwad Gazzette - is it aimed at the USA and if so does it translate well to the UK? I'd had a look on Amazon previously but couldn't decide. Is it worth getting?
I think the answer to that is yes and yes;) A lot of it is very American but a lot of it is really relevant to everyone trying to save money. Above all the book teaches you to think creatively about money-saving.

Thanks to everyone who has given a definition of scruggins. Am none the wiser now:rotfl:Lame wolf the questioner on Answerbank obviously has the same book as me as the quote is from the same recipe.

    Still haven't done my ironing:doh:
  • Oooooh my Delia book arrived today from Amazon, I haven't taken my nose out of it for hours!!

Have a good evening everyone! hi.gif

To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough.

Hi all:hello:.DH dropped me off at Tesco on his way to work, and I did a big shop-getting lots of bits that I cant pick up at Aldi and the like.DS1 picked me up and I started with a migraine almost as soon as I got back. Not had one for ages and ages,so had to lie down for a bit.Still feel a bit muzzy but a lot better than earlier, sounds like a few of us have had bad heads today-hope they are better soon.
Going to tidy away after tea now and settle down in front of the telly for a lazy night.Have a good evening everybody.x

    Yes!
My husband calls me Amy sometimes.
One major difference is that instead of Making A List And Sticking To It when you go shopping, she suggests going to see what's on sale or reduced and making your menu to suit the ingredients. And stockpiling. Lots of stockpiling.

I found some of it extreme but it's a heck of a good read... all 960 pages of it.
It makes you question all the things you take for granted, and if you decide what you are doing at the moment is just fine then OK.

I got mine from amazon a couple of years ago. It's £18 from them now but only £13.26 from The Book Depository.

ETA the system won't let me put a link in because I am new :( but if you google them they are easy to find.

I have the complete TWG and as the others have said its a cracking read, the sort of book you can dip back into whenever you need to. Well worth buying IMHO.:T

    Eevening folks
hello winnie and welcome:). Not so many read and post later in the evening so make sure that you post again tomorrow and keep us up to date with what you're up to. Lots of encouragement on here!
I've been out for an Indian meal tonight which, although not very OS at all, was fab. We don't eat out as much as we used to so it really makes you appreciate it when you do.
The wind has picked up here and there is a light shower of rain. DH is off round the block with the doggies. I am off to pour us both a brandy :p
