I doubt houseprices made ad lose his composure: he's too sensible,{ snip:removed on request}.. when I see people becoming abrupt or not themsleves I tend to think first to real world (not forum or ven ecomoic news) problems...relationshps/jobs/health.

I can't remember who (and wouldn't name if I could) but one early days regular was at one point receiving cancer treatment, and once apologised for an outburst with an explanation I think they never refered to again. I really admired that person. Puts moaners like me to shame.

So as it wasn't ad that posted the nudity, getting PPR'd without warning or a clear yellow/red system seems beyond the pale.

Can the mods not give him a second chance? If he genuinely has learned a lesson then whats the point of banning someone?

Everyone can cross the line from time to time in heated debate, and sure sockpuppets are annoying, but there are FAR worse offenders than Ad.

Banning good posters without warning is surely not healthy for the open and informative exchange of ideas that can come from boards such as this one.
“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

  • I am still a little miffed about my signiature being deleted twice.

I understand why the first one was but funny that the quote from the user it was taken from still exists.

    Double standards & all that...

Or does it remain because the poster who I took it from was in the POLICE!!

I now personally know of a couple of decent posters who have been banned. There doesn't seem to be much reasoning behind the decision, and certainly in at least one case, no reasoning or explanation presented. Although this is a free forum, blah di blah, and belongs to Martin, blah di blah - the people who inhabit this forum and contribute to it are a valuable and free resource for Martin.

I think the relationship should be a two way thing, and banning should be accompanied by an explanation at the very least. In addition, if a poster admits overstepping the mark and apologises then perhaps some kind of two strikes and out policy could be adopted. After all MSE has the technology.

There was some talk of a yellow / red card system - this appears not to have happened. It would make sense, be good to have a warning, that if no further reports of abuse or whatever moaning were received, would disappear after say three months or so.

OK, I expect the mods get hundreds of complaints and grief each day - but for serious posters with thousands of thankyous perhaps a bit more of a personal touch would be good.

And finally. I am not asking in case I get ppr'd. I really am not that fussed. It's for others I am concerned.

OOOOOOOOH Get me,I`m self important I am!

Run this site how I want or I`ll stamp my feet and spit.

    So there.
Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam
  • There are NO moderators anywhere on these forums. Board guides have no moderating powers and don't influence decisions made by MSE Towers either. That's why it's in their signature that abuse issues need to be directed to Abuse.

Fair enough, I don't know the user(s) in question, but the amount I've seen some people get away with around here and not be PPRed, I'd say that in order for that line of action to have been taken, something really must have happened. Maybe they made some really offensive posts that were removed so fast many of you didn't see them, or send inappropriate PMs.

But being PPRed doesn't mean you can't still read these forums though.

ad was a contributer to the debate house prices etc forum: you cannot read that unless logged in.
  • LIR, I remember reading that the forum you're talking about was actually changed to log-in only because of all the trouble going over there.

LIR, I remember reading that the forum you're talking about was actually changed to log-in only because of all the trouble going over there.

The whole nature of the 'Debate House Prices & Economy' forum makes it a contentious place. It's about far more important things than 2for1 offers and free pizzas. Putting it on the top shelf and log-on only is one solution, and not necessarily a very good one, as many casual observers will never find it. Most of us here were casuals at some point.

Personally, I think we should be treated as grown-ups and the 'Debate' board should be visible to all, but accompanied by a 'health warning,' much like those that used to appear on explicit magazines (and may still do so, for all I know!) A three strikes and you're out policy, others have suggested, seems a decent way to deal with the content posted here. If the technology exists, and I'm sure it does, the number of 'clean' posts a member has made could also count towards the removal of yellow/red cards too in due course. Most people appreciate a carrot as well as a stick.

As for ad, he represented the views I hold most closely, and expressed them more knowledgeably than I could. I'd like to see him back to help sustain the forum's balance.;)

Not really much you can do if you get banned and not told why, Lots of websites do it, Theres no law that states they need to tell you why you where banned.
i used to be a mod and if someone was banned the offending thread was kept on and the mod that banned them posted why ;)
things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back then ;)
BH is my best mate too, its ok :)
