I now personally know of a couple of decent posters who have been banned. There doesn't seem to be much reasoning behind the decision, and certainly in at least one case, no reasoning or explanation presented. Although this is a free forum, blah di blah, and belongs to Martin, blah di blah - the people who inhabit this forum and contribute to it are a valuable and free resource for Martin.
I think the relationship should be a two way thing, and banning should be accompanied by an explanation at the very least. In addition, if a poster admits overstepping the mark and apologises then perhaps some kind of two strikes and out policy could be adopted. After all MSE has the technology.
There was some talk of a yellow / red card system - this appears not to have happened. It would make sense, be good to have a warning, that if no further reports of abuse or whatever moaning were received, would disappear after say three months or so.
OK, I expect the mods get hundreds of complaints and grief each day - but for serious posters with thousands of thankyous perhaps a bit more of a personal touch would be good.
And finally. I am not asking in case I get ppr'd. I really am not that fussed. It's for others I am concerned.

I'm moving this to the site feedback board where the mods will see it.0

Are you asking for 'thanks'? (joke).
Completely agree with all of the above. If people register, then imediately post 25 posts full of abuse then ban them straight away. Banning people who have a thank count that shows that they have clearly helped / entertained / contributed to the forum without letting them or anyone else know why isn't on.
A tenner says that the standard "I'm moving this to site feedback" message appears in a minute.0 -

My mistake Misskool. But I wanted my 'friends' to see it too.
lir wonders if shes a 'friend'. When you meet up with MSEers do you greet them introducing your self as ''mewbie'' with that finger wiggle in the air thing?
fwiw I am very, very very sad about the decision as regards 'ad [numbers]'. He seems a nice guy and though passionate didn't tread the line too much.
If his retelling of the story elsewhere is accurate, and I have no reason to doubt, then its a very great shame and I'm flabbergasted where the knife fell, but also where it didn't.0 -
Not really much you can do if you get banned and not told why, Lots of websites do it, Theres no law that states they need to tell you why you where banned.0

Some of them CONTRIBUTING to MSE as well.
Think of it like this. The landlord of the pub is away, and his officious barman has thown out a regular for being a bit drunk. We need the landlord to introduce a bit of common sense, and some decency.
Martin - if you get to read this - ad9898 is a decent guy. Maybe he made a mistake. I make them all the time.0 -

I would class you as friend.....

well, chum.:kisses3:, does this bar have booze?
ad is a decent chap. He's very sweet in private and elsewhere communication and I can only think any transgression was a mistake or a faltered attempt at humour. I too make mistakes, though noone tell my husband, and I think that, as well as all the soft fluffy things I could say about ad I'd point out he brought a great deal of sensible debate to the board: none of that hateful rubbish we suffer so much from time to time.0 -
ad9898 is a top MSE poster, and his PPR is a complete outrage. I also have had many private conversations with him, and you can just tell he's a genuine geezer.0
