Thank you zeberdy!

I see that you have to apply for your refund by post. So the plan is:
Attach tax disc to refund application form
Take form to PO with printout of
http://www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/refund.htm showing 'There is nothing to stop you applying for a refund on your current disc...' etc.
Relicense vehicle
Post application for refund and ask for certificate of posting. Does that all sound OK?

Hmm....are you sure that the refund will be processed
at the old rather than the new current rate? Otherwise
you could be disappointed!0 -
Hi Jobbin,
You've got it see you at the post office may have to wait a few week s for refund but getting a refund from Gordon has to be worth the effort !!!
Dont forget you need to take Log book and copy of insurance certificate to get replacement tax disc.

You're a star - I would have forgotten! I think I/we might need a copy of the MOT as well!

its been well covered in the news that 10`s of thousands of reminders have gone out with the old rates on http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4930358.stm
and basically you have to pay the new rate when you relicense regardless of what your form says0 -
The money saving advice to all of you is to ensure your road tax expires in February. We have always endeavoured to do this - it's easy to move your expiry date by surrending your old road tax on the 28th (or 29th) February and taxing again from 1st March.
The benefit of February is that road tax almost always goes up, and you get a full year at the old rate. If it (exceptionally) goes down, you can surrender the 1 month old tax disc at the end of March and get the saving.0 -
Well the Post Office man wiped the smile of my face this morning thinking i was going to get it for £165 when he said that it had gone up.
oh well not much i can really do but pay it!
I know my car drinks petrol like no tomorrow but surely i pay for my sins in bloody petrol prices! I don't mind being taxed but don't tax me twice for the same sin! :mad:0
