Car Tax saver
I realise this may not be the correct thread but given it is a grab it now i.e requires immediate action tommorrow to benefit perhaps it is !
In the recent budget the Car tax on entry level Co2 banded vehicles band B was reduced from £78 to £40 a year this includes Citroen C1, Peugeot 107 & Toyota Aygo that I know of others are listed here:
http://www.vcacarfueldata.org.uk/search/vedSearchResults.asp
If you purchased a car from a dealer prior to the budget it will have a Road Tax fund Licence of £78 this can be surrendered preferable tommorow as refunds are only per calender month and in my case I get back £39 in the post in a few weeks, I can at the same time re tax the car for £40 a year at the new rate.
The forms you need can be downloaded here:
http://www.dvla.gov.uk/forms/frms_vehicles.htm
See you in the cue at the post office Big Thanks to Gordon Brown

I don't understand this thread (sorry, yes I am blonde.)
I bought my car tax in February, for £75. I understand that my tax is now £40 (Mark 6 Smart
)
Are you saying I should apply for a refund on my existing tax and apply all over again, tomorrow?Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -

(PS I may be blonde but I'm pretty sure that if you surrender yr car tax - even at the end of a month - they take quite a hefty chunk as 'administration fees'. Is it really worth it?
) Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -
Actually they dont charge an admin fee for this although they used too ! so you get a refund of £6.50 / month still valid on current tax disc. see below from
http://www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/Changes_to_cost_of_vehicle_tax.htm
3) My tax rate has been reduced because of the Budget. Can I apply for a new disc at the reduced rate and then claim a refund on my current disc. How long will it take?
Yes. There is nothing to stop you applying for a refund on your current disc and relicensing at the new reduced rate from March 23rd. You can get a refund for each full calendar month still to run on the licence disc at the time you apply. If you require a refund on your current disc please use application form V14. V14’s are available for download from the forms page or from any Post Office® branch that issue tax discs and DVLA Local Offices. Your refund should be sent to you within 3 – 6 weeks. For further information on refunds can be found here.

So may be worth it 6 months extra free motoring for me !!
