Irritating speeds with AOL Broadband

Hi since saturday my aol broaband speed has been twice the speed of dial up. At around 0.12MB or 120kb. This is not my download speed but my actual ip profile. I am very confused of this as when i go to my routers homepage is i get a bandwidth of 2400/448 down/up.
Output Power (dBm) up/down = 11.5 / 17.0 Attenuation (dB) up/down = 31.5 / 55.0
Noise Margin (dB) up/down = 20.0 / 9.5
I have tested from both my main socket and the test one. My router is a speedtouch 580, however i dont think the problems there, although when I do ring AOL, they say it is, but theyre all reading from a script I think. Is there anything I can do to put my connection back up to 1.6meg.
Also i pay for 'up to 8meg' but i live 2.6km from the exchange. Is 1.6mb connection about right 2.6km away, because i didnt think the quality would have detoriated that bad from 8mb to 1.6.
Thanks for you help guys im at breaking point with AO Hell

Have you tried changing the filters?
That's one of the (several) things I did at once which led to my speed going back up. I was also told to check my router was "optimised" for AOL:
Firstly they told me to unplug all the wires and then plug them back in:rolleyes:.
They asked me to change my router login to *phonenumber*@dialbb.com
* this is your actual phone number including dialing code *, and to make my password aol123. You may have already been asked to do this bit, and as I can't remember exactly how to do this you might need to phone them up to find out how.
Maybe try installing DrSpeedtouch to see if your router can find out what's wrong. This will be on your disc that came with the router or can be downloaded from the Speedtouch website.
This thread here might help you - similar probs to you - maybe you have same prob?

I'm the same re exchange, and I have only stayed with AOL on the basis better the devil you know...
I have looked at other ISPs but I can't save any money and all the others have capped download, which my AOL hasn't. I rarely have to deal with them on the phone and they give me free phonecalls too. I'd say they are no worse than the others that are available to me.

Is there any chance that my IP Profile may be stuck?0

I have had the exact same problem but with virgin and they now insist the problem lies with BT and specifically the exchange. Check out your bt exchange at samknows.com for more info0

because I ran the speedtest on BT, its said my dsl stats were 2400kbps and actual ip profile was 135(gone up a bit), but the throughput was 120
That's just the speed the line is sitting on at the exchange, doesn't mean that you're only being provided with 120kbps.
Beware the (mis)terminology used on the internets.0
