I've just ordered a Pinnacle Soundbridge HomeMusic WiFi Media Player, it will play music from the internet without the PC being switched on, and you can preset up to 15 stations. Any good?

Available at Currys. Logik IR100 Internet Radio 901880 at £39.99? (search curry's website using product code).

The imp looks nice - is it very much better than the £49.99 being discussed in a long MSE thread here:

No my first order did not arrive - the shop on Amazonb ceased trading and I am hoping to get my money back. In the meantime I ordered the same item from another shop on Amazon and it is due to be delivered by Saturday. Will report back...
So I am not the only one who has had very dodgy service from shops affiliated with Amazon... nowadays I refuse to buy anything serious from an Amazon shop, I only buy direct from Amazon itself (Amazon has gone sharply downhill and become confusing to use since it introduced the shops).0 -
If youcan get freeview reception ok just getting a better aerial or signal booster for you DAB/FM radio might work0

Have you tried this out yet,
Yes the device arrived on Friday (I ordered it on Sunday from another Amazon shop) and I have to say I am delighted with it. The internet radio function is fantastic, it picks up something like 5000 stations and these can be sorted by name, genre, country of origin and then saved as 1 of 6 presets on the remote, or as a favourite station accessible through a menu. The sound quality is very good indeed. You need your wireless router on for this to work but not your PC. If I switch my PC on I can also access my entire iTunes library (it will not play protected songs purchased through iTunes) and this will also work with Windows Media Player etc. Alex Johnson's comment about the BBC stations is a valid point, they show up on the menu as being available but will not play which is annoying. The other function this Pinnacle machine does is to play music direct from an SD card but I have not tried that out yet.
Negative points? You do need to plug it in to a pair of powered speakers or an existing amp/stereo system so there is added expense there. And the LED display could be bigger but it's not bad.
Overall though, I think it's fantastic value for less than £70 including postage, and I highly recommend it.0 -
I enjoy online streamed radio, I have a Dreambox satellite receiver, so not only I have satellite radio from many satellites, I have also downloaded their Shoutcast player, the satellite receiver connects to my router, so I can stream radio from the net or even control the box from my PC, the satellite receiver is also connected to my hi-fi. I've been listening to satellite radio since the 1980s, used to enjoy good old Quality Europe FM, no longer here, but do enjoy online radio. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0

Or failing that you could just log onto the website of your favourite radio station and get live stream radio albeit time delayed by a second or two.
Then just add it to your favourites. I listen to Wyvern FM online from time to time and Im sure there are many others out there. To travel at the speed of light, one must first become light.....0 -
alexjohnson wrote: »That's funny - my Acoustic Research makes the BBC stations available in WMA as well; the problem is they're at 20Kbps (as opposed to 64Kbps for Real). That is the difference between AM radio on a cheap radio, and FM on a halfway decent kitchen radio (this will not give a decent stereo any challenge): it is very noticeable though whether it matters is a matter of judgment. But I'm surprised you can't get BBC stations at all.0
