Yes but you can get a decent digital camera for less than £100 ... we bought a Olympus X-42 from Argos for £70 .... it takes excellent photos .... I am sure that if we wanted to blow them up to A3 size they might not look as good .... but for what my wife was looking for it is excellent value ...

The nearest Canon was £120-£140 .... to much.

The only reason I am not sure about that camera is that I was hoping for one that took straight SD cards as I both my other cameras take them and it seemed a waste to go to a different format. It does have good ratings though.

Why not try a proper camera shop, where unlike Argos and others the staff can give advice and you can actually hold the product and try it out.

I got a camera, I have bought the Samsung ES55 as it seems a good simple, yet lightweight camera. The only thing I wasn't sure about was the rechargeable battery, I had intended to go for one that took AA batteries but was persuaded that the battery life for them is poor. I already have an old (2mp) Fuji digital from when they first came out and they eats batteries. I also bought and sold almost immediately another Fuji once for the same reason.

That's why I said you don't need a huge MP rating.

But you can't really compare an olympus to a canon. You've got XD cards, which are far more expensive than SD cards. Canons tend to have picture stitching, colour accent, brilliant colours, detail and depth and until you compare the same picture from two different cameras, you don't realise the difference.

I thought my concord camera was brilliant until I saw how good cameras could be. Also, I know it's not so much the case now, but up until about 6 months ago, it was rare to get a camera under £100 with a rechargeable battery, let alone one with a decent battery life. My mum has a £40 digital camera from argos and it's so bargain basement it's unbelievable.

The battery dies after 30 mins, it corrupts SD cards more than it takes pictures and video mode is washed out and sounds like it's been filmed under water.

Whereas my canon has awesome colour definition and the video quality is every bit as good as my camcorder.

I think you all missed the point of my post! if asda hasnt got it in stock - argos hasnt got it in stock - be aware that they may be a problem with the product! ie they are getting too many returns and have suspended trading of the product. I did mention the certain pink phone which every other customer was asking for - the teens wanted it but the companies were aware they were being returned in huge quantities. the phones just did not work properly!!!!!!
so if you have seen a certain camera, phone whatever and find that the big retailers dont have it in stock and cant say when they will get it in.........it may mean that the product doesnt work properly !!!!! not that demand is high!!!

be careful if suddenly no one stocks it! it could mean they have had loads of returns and have suspended trading on the product. if other stores have a few left - they will sell you them - but they prob know you will have probs and hope it was one of the few that worked!

I wasn't looking at one make or model though, I tried as many as 15-20 different cameras and originally was unable to get anything.

The only thing in stock anywhere was the various Sony cameras, everyone had them but I didn't want one.

That was what we found .... currys / etc had no stock at all of the cheaper cameras ....
