whinge about no stock of cameras

This is a whinge not a vent really, but how hard is it to buy a cheap digital camera?

Went to Tesco, checked out all the models, checked reviews and tried to buy a camera. My 1st choice was not available..a staff member claimed never to have had any in at all apart from the display model. 2nd choice, nope, third choice, nope..right up to 5th choice. In the end I asked them what they had and he claimed to have just two of one phone and one of another at a very large Tesco extra. They couldn't order any nor could they tell me if they were going to get more.

Drove home, went to Argos. 11 choices later and no stock of anything. Again they had no idea if they would get stock (this is all from the new catalogue) nor were they able to tell me what they had in stock and just said I would need to try them all in turn until I found something in stock.

Is there a shortage of cameras or is my price range for a cheap 'handbag' sized one just so popular. I had a budget of around £80 and wanted one that took SD cards and had 10 mp.

Perhaps you could try the internet? If you know what make and model you want, you should be able to find it. Plus it may be cheaper too! :D

I'm looking now, but you know what it is like. I finally got the money together and wanted to go out and get my camera today ready for an event at the weekend. I'm like a kid, I wanted an instant fix!

I bought a Samsung one from Comet on thursday. I reserved it online about 30mins before, doing their Click&Collect thingy, so got an extra £5 off (internet deal or sommat) so it was £84.99 (and they were saying that was 'cheaper than half price').

It's pink, I love it. Not sure if you are M or F (or if you want to choose your camera solely by the colour, lol) but they did have a silver one the same. :)
Are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

We've just had a chat and might see what we can find in Dixons at Heathrow before we fly. Not sure how we'd sort the pre-charging of batteries, might have to do it on arrival.

i used to work temp for argos - the till (computer) can tell you if its in stock in other stores - or go online - and it should tell you which stores stock this item in any area you put in (on reserve) - i should say tho that if an item has been withdrawn for some reason - this wont come up. take that as a warning that there has been a problem with it ie. it doesnt work!!! when i worked for them s certain pink mobile phone was in high demand - but the till showed no available stock - it was later withdrawn as it didnt ruddy work

Why wait until the last minute to get a camera? At this time of year, it's worst for camera availability because everyone is buying them for their holidays.

something under £80 won't take very good pictures, really, anyway. Don't bother about how many megapixels the camera has, either. Unless youre printing an a1 sized poster, you'll likely never see more than 6mp. It's the lens and sensor that makes the difference. Get a low end canon or panasonic and you can't go wrong. yes, theyre more expensive, but at least your photos won't look like they were drawn by a 5 year old with cataracts.
