Inactive, that's a very good point. I left my card details in situ, as I do with some of my other popular shopping sites I use. Thank you for raising this - I'll make sure I do 'one off' payments in future.
  • I have also just been hit with this o2 scam. after ringing the bank i was told that there more transactions still pending for even smaller amounts that i have not authorised. after seeing how common this scam is, it makes me sick that nothing has been done to tighten security.

Time for me to join the club I'm afraid
Checked my account ( Natwest ) last night and the monies available was £30 less than balance.
Hmmmm, I thought. I'd not used my debit card this week ( not since last Saturday 11th in Tesco ) so what was it for.
Shown up this morning as O2 Prepay Ltd Slough, £30 payment 16th July. So, after all the security precautions I take with my card and online account I still get stung.
Rang the bank today ( 6am ) and cancelled the card. The man was friendly and knew all about this scam. Rang fraud at 8am ( when they open ) and lady took details and will send form in the post to claim money back. Not too sure she believed me though, I knew too much about the scam for her liking ( that will teach me to use these forums !!! )
As I had caught it so quick ( luckily ) there was no other payments pending.
Thanks to this forum I am more alert than ever :T

Around 6 weeks ago I attempted to use my card in a diy store, the cashier said I needed to give authorization which I did and my purchase was allowed to go through, they gave me a telephone number to ring when I got home, when I rang it was the halifax fraud squad , apparently within 4 hours I had made or attempted to make around £1.200 worth of purchases, the bank had stopped my card luckily before any more left my account, when contacted by the fraud squad and asked to check my statement roughly a week earlier a £30 02 top up had been took from my account, I was told by the fraud squad that after this payment went through my account and went un-noticed then the shopping spree on my card began, I got my money back, but I regulary check my account, I was told that there is alot of it going on, I too used amazon 4 days before the first £30 left my account, but then again I also used cashpoints, and supermarket checkouts, there is way too much card theft going on
  • I've made a successful claim and have got my £30 back. I'm really glad I noticed the £30 going out of my account, it sounds like it could have happened again and added up to lots of stolen money!

I had had 2 payments to phone companies, one to orange for >£300 and one to vodafone for about £50. I made a dedicated thread about it.

But it's a joke providing the orange number at the start of this thread. It's impossible to speak to anyone in the fraud department via customer services.

Vodafone were just as useless (will only respond to queries by the police apparantly).

Additionally abbey won't even start the fraud investigation until the money has cleared my account on friday!!

    Mental.
  • i too have just been stung by this scam ,my card provider put a stop on my card even before they contacted me(so they are very much aware of this scam but not doing anything about it !!!!!!!!!!!!! why not. Its been going on now for ten years(yes ten years) the inconvience of not having a card for 7-10 days is annoying although understandable. i just dont understand why cards are mainly been used for top up usually £15-30.ANY IDEAS

Just to add that I too have been scammed.
I checked my statement this morning and noticed a £30 transaction for Vodaphone, a company with which I have never been with.
Spoke to Barclays and cancelled my card (was originally told that I would have to wait until tomorrow to get card cancelled - how ridiculous)
Was told that the Fraud department would phone me back, but they haven't - will try later. This was after I was on hold for over 40 minutes, just to compound the misery.

I suppose I'm fortunate in that I noticed it early - dread to imagine what might have happened had I not noticed.

Happened to me on 28th July. Noticed on my online bank statement £30 O2(UK)LTD PREPAY was taken out. Found this thread doing a search on Google and followed what has been said. Phoned up Bank(LloydsTSB) and just explained about the £30 being taken out, not used o2 prepay in a long time, and no longer with o2. Bank never asked questions, they are sending me a declaration form to sign and confirm that this was unauthorised, cancelled my bank card and have promised me I will get the money back.

This thread helped me alot, thanks
