Hi, just found this thread - what happened to me was last Friday I topped up £10 online on o2 with my m+s card, i then get a message on my phone later that day to phone m+s, asked if the top up was by me, I said yes, but then said my card along with others had been compromised and was going to be cancelled/blocked and a new one sent out - anybody had this happen to them?
  • Hi there,

Just to add my list to the names of those that have been caught out with the £30 O2 top up amount, when I don't have an 02 phone.

I actually went into my Barclays branch to get this sorted, only to be told that they don't have the claim forms on site to deal with this and I would need to call their customer services dept to sort it out. THis was after I'd been sat in a queue for 20 minutes to wait to see an advisor.

after a 42 minute phone call to their customer services call centre, I'm being sent forms out, and had to ask for my card to be cancelled and new details sent out. It's been a heck of a palava trying to sort this out already, and I feel I'm not even half way towards getting to the end :(
  • Mine was worse than that

The day i found out about these fraud transactions thier computers were down, apparently for the first time in years. The day after i rang up and after being on hold for god knows how long they said they couldn't get through to the debit team (due to the back log of calls) and would give me a call back, they did cancel my card though.

That call back didn't come so i went to the bank and i was there for about a hour and half and even they couldn't get through to the debit team!!! They suggested i went on their site and download a dispute form. When i got home i tried and there was no such option.

The day after i rang again and got through to the debit team after about 40 minutes and they said they would send me the forms out which haven't arrived yet and that was 4-5 days ago.

Very very shoddy service from Barclay's.
  • i had this happen to me on my c/c i called them and reported this and they credited my account

i have no idea where they got my detils from as i havent used my c/c for a long time to buy any thing and the payments i made manually online

it was after i had cleard my balance so i didnt expect to have to make apayment so i had to get them to clear my credit file as well

 I've had 2 unexpected transactions appear on my bank statement too, both on 15 June. Each for £30 - one was O2 Prepay, the other Vodaphone. I'm with Smile/Co-operative Bank. Called their fraud team on Saturday after drawing out some cash for the week, as I knew my card would have to be cancelled. New card arrived today. I'm really impressed with how quickly Smile are sorting it out, but pretty p*ssed off I've had £60 taken out of my account in the meantime. Can't believe it's soooo widespread and has been going on for so long

My card was hit by a £25 Vodafone top up in May. On the same day 19p was taken for the W.A. Ballet in Australia.

I have got my money refunded and have to fill in some fraud forms for the credit card company.

It states as one of the questions: Does anybody have access to your card. Physically they do not, but I have used the card on two online shops. Would this technically count as somebody having access to it?

I Googled "Vodafone credit card top up scam" and came across two forums that mention the same online shop by some of its posters. I also use this shop and I believe their card database was compromised back around April.

I am not insinuating that this shop is the one at fault but has anybody on here used the video games website Shopto and then had problems with their card?

The really lucky thing is that I didn't check my card statement until around the first week of June. This gave them more than 2 weeks to take more money but thankfully no more was taken. I never check my statement until it arrives as I know exactly what I have spent but from now on I will keep a very close eye on my card!

Edit: My PC is protected with the latest security and I keep it fully patched. I am as careful as I can be which worries me even more that this has happened!

You can enter NO to the question on the form - to be honest, its just an exercise for them - you will get your money back and they have to pursue Vodafone for it.

I and a few other got money taken out after using Shopto

I only checked my bank after someone said that they had money taken out and that was 2 weeks after they had already been in my account, so i'm lucky they didn't take more as well

None of these online shops are responsible. I have used the same debit card for 5 years online - numerous purchases from play.com, amazon and most of the others mentioned here.

A couple of earlier posts have already explained that the numbers are randomly generated until a 'live' card is discovered. This is usually used for a low value test purchase to check it 'works' before they do the damage to your account. None of these big online stores are involved.
Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed. ;)

Well i just checked my statement tonight for the first time in a week or so and i've been hit with the 02 Slough £30 top up :(

And i've now found this thread so it appears to be a common problem. I use my debit card online a lot so they could of got my details from anywhere. It's worrying.
I better phone up the bank tomorrow and sort this out.
