Nearly Cinny,

Personally, I'd take your Grandma up on the offer of her old bike. Might not be ideal but atleast you'll have a bike and can see how much you use it before forking out for your own. You'll end up kicking yourself spending £300+ on a bike to hardly use it. Speaking from experience here, I hardly use poor Darcy! ( I keep on going over him with a duster though
)
Zig, I have to say I completely agree with Cinny here. £300 is a lot to spend on a bike when you have debts, even with the best intentions in the world! I'd say yes to your Nan's offer (even if it is a bit cr*p) and see how it goes for a few months. You could make a note of how many times you use it in 3 months, say, and work out how much it would cost per use over a year - that should help you make your mind up! If you love it and use it all the time, then you can always treat yourself after Christmas - there'll always be bike sales!

I'm very much with Cinny. Accept your nans kind offer (shes probably not wanting it as she doesnt ride anymore, lots of people buy bikes then dont use them and they rust away in gardens and sheds!), and if you find you are using it a couple of times a week, that can be your treat for getting debt free in a few months time. If you use it for a few weeks and stop, dont buy one!Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Thanks Cinny and Poddle
Don't you just hate it when people tell you what you don't want to hear, even though you know they're right?
I bought two glass kilner jar type things in ASDA for £1 each. I'm gonna try and think of some nice little things to go in them cuz with ribbon round them they'll make alright little Christmas gifts!
Tete, did you manage to book Bruges this weekend?
ETA: Thanks Dinah. I know it is sensible to use my Nan's old one to see if it's worth the money, it's just annoyed me a tad that she is saying have her old one, when she just went out and bought a new one! I kinda think 'well why didn't you just use your old one instead of buying a new one?!' :rolleyes: Ah well!Total Debt (Dec 2015) £11,500 : Currently £7,675Lose 21lb : 0/21

:rotfl: And me! I was impressed with Cinny's comment just after as well!
I'm going with the general concensus here, £300 IS a lot to pay for a bike! I only paid half that again for my CAR! And you said earlier today that gym memberships and swimming were too expensive - but I think you'd get more use out of a gym membership than a bike in the winter...
ETA- NOOH wants to wait til he's been paid, but I have the money put aside so as soon as he's ready to book so am I! Have a horrible feeling this is one of those things that's never gonna happen though...

Yeah that's true. It's a beautiful day here and I think I just got caught up in my thoughts of how nice it would be to go on bike rides with OH at the weekend. But it is a lot of money off my debt so I'll wait. I'd rather wait and buy a bike, rather than waste it on the gym.Total Debt (Dec 2015) £11,500 : Currently £7,675Lose 21lb : 0/21

I was impressed I (semi) understood a Poolie technical comment! (Watch him come back now and squash my small technical knatter) It's like the first time you understood one of Dinah's budget/saving posts. Like the heavens open and lots of little angels go 'Ahh-haaa!' or.. something like that.
Zig - You're making me want to go out on my Pashley now! Me and OH always mean to go on bike rides.. but end up at the Cinema where it's warm. Saying that, we're off to the magical Apple Festival this weekend and could easily bike across. It's about a 30mile round trip though, and I think OH might just fall off into a ditch and die if we did that.0 -
