Lol are you tidying up your seams for your folder?! I've just stuck mine in as is, and used the mistakes as a learning curve! Still need to do that damn mood board though. Oh and I need to find some instructions for flat fell, curved seams and normal hems, as well as the 'fancy hem' whose name I don't know, and stick those in my book too.

If you haven't lived together before Cinny I think renting is more sensible if you dont have any moral issue, it's a big learning curve.

That's another good reason for renting, make sure I can live with him 24/7 without wanting to kill him :D I suppose we plenty of years to buy a home, I'm just worried with moving out and renting we wont have enough to be saving for a house at the same time.

Gosh, your course sounds like it has a lot of homework!! Are you enjoying it though?

Your income ought to rise over time though Cinny, so you can save rises as you get promoted or more house and use those towards savings for buying your first house.

Am enjoying the course, mostly, its just a bit fast paced and I do feel a little lost!

    Afternoon girls,

I love some of those ideas for christening gifts! I've been invited to two in the last week - uh oh, it's started! :D

I went away for a long weekend and feels like I've been away for AGES - I feel like time is playing games with me as I caught up with my friends from uni and REALLY can't believe that I graduated 5 years ago! It was nice that nobody had really changed :) Except that we've mostly acquired jobs/partners/debts/grey hairs/houses/swine flu* in the mean time...

    *delete as appropriate

I did find out something that will shock you DF wannabes to the core - my friend Alex, who is now the proud owner of a brand new 2-bed penthouse in the centre of Birmingham *borrowed* the money for his deposit from his bank which basically makes a mockery of the whole deposit thing!

Oh all right, you're probably not shocked to the core, but it does seem a bit mad to me.

Cinny, i think renting for a while is a good idea (if, like Dinah say, you don't have any moral objections) as moving out of home for the first time is a big enough thing without a mortgage on top.

Tete, congrats on being asked to be a Godmother - I imagine it's like a cool Auntie role, but it's probably a bit more complex than that...

Off to catch up with the rest of the news! x

Hi Poddle - definitely shocked!! what would Martin say!

I think renting is okay too, it's nice not to have the responsibility for a mortgage. We have a lovely landlady who is bizarrely really well connected in the area that I'm doing my phd on.

Tete that is so cool about the Godmother thing. My sister and I are going to be joint Godmother to my nephew who is getting christened on Sunday. I don't know why she asked us both, guess she thought we would fall out with her otherwise, haha! I have hummed and ha-ed so much about a present that I haven't got anything at all. I think you will definitely be a 'cool auntie' Godmother.

Today has been a bit of a washout - I got stood up twice! We were going to see a wedding place and the lady never showed, and then one of my supervisors was missing in action for our first skype meeting. Must be jinxed today or something.

All the sewing talk sounds exciting.

If you don't want it you can send it over to me. I'm sure I can find it a good home :D
I've eaten way too few Calories today, less than 100 for Breakfast, 350 for dinner and only about 150 in snacks. I hope my Mum is making a big Tea!

You girls have talked me back into renting, thank you! I know it's much better for us when we first move out, OH has told me to stop looking at places to rent though. He's such a nasty pasty, ruining my fun!

Sounds like you've had a nice weekend Poddle! Your friend does sound a bit barmy though. Could not imagine doing that!
