There are virtually no other companies that will accept the 6 months no claims bonus as a years no claims bonus. There are companies (Not all) who will accept the 18 months no claims bonus.
...but it's not an 18 month no claims bonus! You get a two year NCB certificate....!

And yes, you are tied after the first six months but I said that in my first post. The point is, for someone as young as 19 who most likely doesn't have £2000 but may be able to scrape together £400-500 fully comp (based on my quote as a 20yr old for a brand new i10), this works out very well. After the first six months you're still not tied to Endsleigh if you don't want to stay with them...you're only tied if you want that 1 year no claims discount.

But not all companies will accept the two years no claims bonus even if you have a certificate stating its two years.

Why? Would the certificate say that you earned it in 18 months?

Because some Insurers have set up their websites to ask how much no claims bonus you have and also a seperate question asking how many complete years you have been insured. With the 18 month no claims bonus you would have to answer 1 complete year. If you did this some will allow 1 years no claims and some would allow the 2 years.

It can work out cheaper in the long run to do a 12 month policy if your taking cover within around a month after your birthday as well

I read somewhere on MSE about this pay as you drive thing. Insurance company fits a device which tracks the miles you have driven and you pay based on that. Perhaps good for the not so frequent young driver but I'm unsure whether you can build up no claims.

A friend tells me that they have just had their 17 year-old provisional licence holding daughter insured fully-comp on her runaround (Kia or something) for £500 with Quinn Direct. Policy in her own name and everything.

That's quite a good quote but once he/she passes the test, the price will soon rocket up which sounds really daft as they are a better driver driver than before……..

I can see why, as a learner they only drive with mum or dad sitting next to them, once they pass the test they are out with a car load of mates and it’s party time
  • I had a 1999 1.3 KA (Still have it) and Mine was £700 on a provisional, when i passed it went up to £750! so wasnt too bad! fully comp!
