Wow did quite a lot today!!! I did have help, my mam came round to help with the electrician being there. She really helped me a lot. DD1 and DD2's bedrooms are done!!! Lets hope they stay that way all week (chance will be a fine thing!!). Means I can concentrate on laundry mountain and on filing paperwork as well as the dailies!!! Hopefully my back will keep and I'll be able to keep up what I managed last week. And hopefully when someone comes home on saturday, he will notice and do a bit more round the place!!!

Well I have just chilled out and watched 4 weddings on Living tv and it was so funny! I know I shouldnt laugh but the b**ching was hilarious!!!! Just to think, this time next year am going to have to start planning when we re-take our vows for our 10th anniversary!! (thats if I havent killed him first :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:)

Right am gonna have an early night and will speak to you all tomorrow. Sweet dreams to all and hugs to all who need/want one xxxx

And Greenbee - you're right - spending the redundo on shoes is NOT the right thing to do. You may buy one cheapish pair but then how about sticking the rest on reducing the mortgage?

It's not ME who thinks shoes aren't a good investment :rotfl::rotfl:I'm with holly on this one! And I'm certainly not buying a cheapish pair (I suppose it depends on your definition of cheapish...). I suppose I could chuck some of it at the mortgage...

My dad thinks I should put quite a bit aside for buying a car sometime in the next year or too...

I think I should spend it on:

Art (I have a space on the wall)
Jewellery (it'll last forever and remind me of being paid to take a better job...)
A woodstove (living room chimney needs doing anyway, so I might as well, but it will mean redoing the fire surround too...)
Bamboo floor and new skirting in the sitting room
    New bathroom
Redo upstairs floorboards (lots of gaps/splinters)
Take out hedge/shrubs down side of drive, fence drive boundary and move gate (so I don't have a shared drive with my crack who*re neighbour)
Demolish asbestos garage & rickety shed, dig out patio, re-landscape garden, lay new (bigger) patio, build new shed and have a beautiful, low(er) maintenance garden that I can enjoy when I'm not travellling
Find out what's living in the roof and get it dealt with
    Sort out utility room electrics
Get outside of window frames painted
Have three tiled windowsills replaced with wooden ones
Have nasty polyripple stuff removed from upstairs ceilings
Have study, bedroom, landing, stairs, hall, kitchen, utility and sitting room repainted (I suppose the spare room might as well be done at the same time, or it will feel left out!)

... so somehow I don't think there'll be anything left to save if I get round to this lot...

Just popping in for a quick list update before bed.

Out for the morning tomorrow so flying will need to wait until the afternoon but hope to get my dailies done before I head out.

Wilf - I've got to buy a jacket, shirt and tie for golf dinners tomorrow, not something I really want to be spending cash on when I have 3 pairs of school shoes and trainers to buy. It is those parts of golf I really don't like. How did your DS get on today? I hope you float more than sink tomorrow.

That is the truly sensible thing to do.

    Define 'quite a bit'

I think I should spend it on:

My answers to your list are in red beside them :p

Art (I have a space on the wall) Define 'art'. Your Mum paints terrific pix it seems - get her to paint you one for free..... Art is so subjective, and fickle in the investment stakes...
Jewellery (it'll last forever and remind me of being paid to take a better job...) Hmmm a bit of gold or silver bling never did anyone any harm, but big rocks that cost a fortune to insure are, really, a liability. You never know when they'll be ripped off your fingers, neck or wrists by a mugger
A woodstove (living room chimney needs doing anyway, so I might as well, but it will mean redoing the fire surround too...) Make it a multi fuel burner and I'll be with you on this - as long as it doesn't take up all the windfalll
Bamboo floor and new skirting in the sitting room Bamboo floor? are you mad? You'll have to kit the rest of the house in the same expensive style. Settle for the new skirting...
New bathroom will it add value to your property?
Redo upstairs floorboards (lots of gaps/splinters) Hire a sander and buy special floorboard calk stuff - much cheaper
Take out hedge/shrubs down side of drive, fence drive boundary and move gate (so I don't have a shared drive with my crack who*re neighbour) That is sensible and will probably add value to your property
Demolish asbestos garage & rickety shed, dig out patio, re-landscape garden, lay new (bigger) patio, build new shed and have a beautiful, low(er) maintenance garden that I can enjoy when I'm not travellling That's not a bad idea
Find out what's living in the roof and get it dealt with What sort of thing might be living up there?
Sort out utility room electrics that should be cheapish
Get outside of window frames painted You can do the downstairs ones yourself....
Have three tiled windowsills replaced with wooden ones I find tiled windowsills are much easier to clean...
Have nasty polyripple stuff removed from upstairs ceilings That's probably an investment
Have study, bedroom, landing, stairs, hall, kitchen, utility and sitting room repainted (I suppose the spare room might as well be done at the same time, or it will feel left out!) I could give you a mates rates quote on that :D

rose - greenbee's 100% right. If you cut out stuff like that you will soon stop craving it (trust me, i know). The best thing I ever read was about how when you think 'i'll just treat myself to (insert treat)' think about how you're not really treating yourself at all, you're actually damaging your body, your self image etc etc. what kind of a treat is that? really made me think!
Rach, you Greenbee and Soappie are all right, and I'm pleased to say I got DH to delete the cake and then not give me the PC until after 10pm when the deadline for altering the order was. So it's not coming tomorrow. I've got to concentrate on losing weight. And that will be a real treat!
    greenbee wrote: »
Now I've finished working out what I'm going to do about this cake, I've got to plan what to do with my redundancy money :D Apparently spending it all on shoes is not considered to be a good investment
But it is very tempting! I like your list of things to do with the money - buying art or jewelry would be a good investment. And doing stuff to the house would up its value. And don't forget that we live near Hampshire and DH is a gardener and does hedges and fences...:rotfl:
    soappie wrote: »
Rosep - Greenbee is right - how about substituting it for a pineapple, some mangos and coconut milk to do that Caribbean cooking.....
Mmm, yum! Wish I'd seen your suggestion before 10pm! We are thinking of getting the cookbook that goes with the series if there is one, I might get DH one for his anniversary present next month.

Jo the worst thing I've ever been accused of was ruining a customers order of lobster for a dinner party and the customer came back in tears saying she'd been humiliated in front of her guests, and my manager called me into the office and gave me a dressing down. It wasn't me, it was a colleague, but he was leaving in a few weeks and he was a really good friend and I didn't want to drop him in it so I took the rap. But I think that's probably not in the league of being wrongly accused you are thinking of!

Flying: erm, have mended the washing basket and DH has washed up!
