Well, came in from work and thought I'd carry on before I sat down and I managed to:
Get 2 baskets of ironing done
Wipe kitchen surfaces over again and tidy up kitchen after DH had been in there!0 -
The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0

I must be Greedy Smurf, or Sleepy Smurf and Greenbee is Baker Smurf :rotfl:"Snowflakes are one of nature's most fragile things, but just look what they can do when they stick together."

My answers to your list are in red beside them
Art (I have a space on the wall) Define 'art'. Your Mum paints terrific pix it seems - get her to paint you one for free..... Art is so subjective, and fickle in the investment stakes... I'm waiting for one of my mum's pictures, but they take a verrry long time! She's got a couple to do for the Hunt Institute, and then I think she's working on my brother's wedding anniversary present...
Jewellery (it'll last forever and remind me of being paid to take a better job...) Hmmm a bit of gold or silver bling never did anyone any harm, but big rocks that cost a fortune to insure are, really, a liability. You never know when they'll be ripped off your fingers, neck or wrists by a mugger I can get a family discount though, from my cousin
A woodstove (living room chimney needs doing anyway, so I might as well, but it will mean redoing the fire surround too...) Make it a multi fuel burner and I'll be with you on this - as long as it doesn't take up all the windfalll It would be multi fuel, and trust me, it won't take it all up
Bamboo floor and new skirting in the sitting room Bamboo floor? are you mad? You'll have to kit the rest of the house in the same expensive style. Settle for the new skirting... Kitchen & hall already have bamboo - it wasn't as expensive as wooden flooring and the carpet is horrible...
New bathroom will it add value to your property? Nope, but it might make it easier to sell, and having a bath will be MUCH nicer!
Redo upstairs floorboards (lots of gaps/splinters) Hire a sander and buy special floorboard calk stuff - much cheaper Lots of the boards need replacing completely (I've already done this once), so I need it done professionally this time...
Take out hedge/shrubs down side of drive, fence drive boundary and move gate (so I don't have a shared drive with my crack who*re neighbour) That is sensible and will probably add value to your property
Demolish asbestos garage & rickety shed, dig out patio, re-landscape garden, lay new (bigger) patio, build new shed and have a beautiful, low(er) maintenance garden that I can enjoy when I'm not travellling That's not a bad idea
Find out what's living in the roof and get it dealt with What sort of thing might be living up there? Something noisy
Sort out utility room electrics that should be cheapish It will be, and the electrician is very good and reliable too...
Get outside of window frames painted You can do the downstairs ones yourself.... I did the kitchen one last time... which is the one that needs doing most. I don't think I'm very good at it...
Have three tiled windowsills replaced with wooden ones I find tiled windowsills are much easier to clean... These are all uneven and cracked, and have been painted
Have nasty polyripple stuff removed from upstairs ceilings That's probably an investment
Have study, bedroom, landing, stairs, hall, kitchen, utility and sitting room repainted (I suppose the spare room might as well be done at the same time, or it will feel left out!) I could give you a mates rates quote on thatIs this part of your new portfolio career?!
Being sensible about this, I think I should probably get quotes over the next couple of weeks and prioritise, and then work out which things need to be done while I'm here and which should definitely be done when I'm NOT here! (Decorating springs to mind...). I'm definitely OK with the electrician being here while I'm away, but I'll have to think about the rest...
As for the car... my dad seems to think I'll need to save over half the money for that... I reckon that if I make an effort to save my car allowance each month I won't need to...
Mortgage might be sensible, but it's not actually that big... it's less than 25% of the value of the house now... so I'm not feeling overly motivated to do anything much about it...0 -
Greenbee - if you can get rid of the mortgage just think of all that interest you'll not be paying ....:money:
And Dusty, I've looked at the smurf link and I think we should all declare what type of Smurf we think we are and then get others to make their suggestions :rotfl:Having looked at that link, I would classify myself either King smurf or Reporter smurf... :rotfl:
But, I must go finish the washing up and put the rubbish out ready for the bin men in the morning...I am the leading lady in the movie of my life

Erm... I'm sitting at home tomorrow waiting for icing to be delivered, have my car phone kit being removed on Wednesday morning, and have to go into the office to dump my work stuff at 2pm on Friday. Then I'm off to bicester on Saturday with a birthday cake, and going from there to Norfolk to stay with my mum. Otherwise I'm open to suggestions!0
