Have started my new Friday night relaxation routine of having a bath and a pampering session, instead of my usual 'vodka and tonic' way of getting over the week. I've even shaved my legs .
The trouble is, now I feel like getting dressed up and going for a night on the town. Luckily (!) I have zero social life and even less money, so I've settled for clean PJs and a cup of tea.
Think I'll go and enter some competitions, see if I can win an exciting life (or at least some more body lotion).0 -
Hello Polly! I have only read your diary for the first time and wanted to wish you well. You shouldn't be so hard on yourself for moaning and negative thought patterns - dealing with cancer, hysterectomy and desertion by your husband must have been three huge blows, kudos for you for surviving with your sense of humour intact.
On the "change one thing" score, have you thought about moving where you live? If you don't like it, why not just move? If you lived further from work, it might help you be more disciplined about sticking to reasonable hours etc etc. Just a thought.
Anyway, I will follow your progress avidly now. Good luck with the competitions - I have one two little prizes this week which was rather cheering.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Hi everyone.
Seaxwyn - it is lovely when the postie calls with something nice-hope we're both lucky this week (I've entered hundreds of comps this weekend). I take your point about moving, especially about being more disciplined with work hours. It's really more sensible for me to stay here until I'm debt free, but sometimes I just feel that I want something, anything, to change right now IYSWIM.
Just phoned a friend that phoned me out of the blue before Christmas - we'd been out of touch for a long time before that. It really cheered me up and I feel that it's a forward step out of the (self-imposed, mostly) isolation I've let myself get into.
Well, the off licence is shut now, so I can report that I have had an alcohol-free weekend - the first (by choice, rather than no money) for a long time. In fact, I didn't drink in the week either, so I have had 7 alcohol-free days, and I hope my liver blooming well appreciates it!
Aims for next week- Eat a meal before I turn the computer on (managed 2 days last week)
- No alcohol in the week (hoping for next weekend too, but don't want to jinx myself).
- Go to bed before 11 o'clock every night.

Hi P - been away for a few days (well, not "away" actually, just getting on with life and not checking in here...) and good to see your progress!
I sympathise on the alcohol thing...I have a glass of wine most nights - I just get to 9pm and hit a kind of wall and head to the fridge....it's normally just one, but it's quite a large one....and I decided the other night it's become too much of a habit....so haven't had one since Friday, which is pleasing. In December, my family went away for a few days and I went for a week quite easily with no alcohol - I think it was because my routine was shaken up, so it was easy not to miss it...but I think I need to try harder on a regular basis!
I often do all my beautifying "chores" on a Saturday morning, as at least if I don't have an evening engagement (most weeks!) I can swan around all day looking and feeling good for my efforts - just a suggestion in case it might help you with that "all done up and nowhere to go" feeling....

Going to do three days worth of washing up  and have a bath.

Hi Polly
Brilliantly well done on the no drinking....and the eating's looking good - and it's hard to get to bed early when you've been at work all day, you feel you deserve some down time, after all.
Enjoy your bath and have a wonderful weekend.

Woke up at 6 this morning because I didn't need to! Have felt totally lifeless all day, so have mooched around on the internet (doing nothing productive) and drunk tea, and now my legs have swollen up again. I think I need to set an alarm or something to make me get up and move around. I definitely didn't drink enough water last week, so that's my aim for next week (I think one aim a week is my limit).
Positive note of the day - I won a Benefit lipgloss in the cadbury flake competition this morning (only had to eat three flakes, but have eaten another two to try and win again).
I'm thinking that a big poster of Daniel Craig on my wall would be a motivation to get into shape (I can dream, can't I? :rotfl:)
Hope everyone's having a good weekend.

Hi Polly, hope you don't mind me joining your diary. You are doing sooo well, I admire you.
Well done on the Benefit wins, thats one of my favs. I didn't realise flake were doing a comp - must try some (and enjoy the chocolate along the way).
Just wanted to say, please don't be so hard on yourself - I love to hibernate and do it most of the time, I eat rubbish, smoke and drink when I know I have health problems that mean I shouldn't. Nobody's perfect, I try and I fail, a lot. But the way I see it is that I do keep trying.
You are making an effort and doing a good job at it.
Look forward to reading more and keep trying hun. Pen x.This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x0
