It's good to see you back. I loved your diary (while it lasted)..... Please may we have some more?
A suggestion for this week. Cook one large meal which is brimming over with good things. Eat some and freeze some to eat again on, say, Friday, letting enough days elapse for it not to become boring. Stash one other portion in the freezer for next week. If you could bring yourself to do this maybe twice a week, you could eat better generally and still have the odd day when you ate....shall we say...less well? And you would begin to build up a reserve in the freezer.....
As we said before, don't try to do too much at once, just keep to a few manageable targets....you can always add more later

Hi DC. I'm definitely going to stick around this time
.
Hi sparkle - I haven't done any knitting since I was at school; maybe I should give it another go.
As far as smoking goes, I have had to admit I'm not in the right place to stop yet, even though I know it's making me feel unwell and it's costing me a fortune. Because I was thinking that "I'm going to stop smoking next (insert ever-revolving date)" I have actually been smoking more (because it doesn't matter, because I'm stopping next weekend/week/tomorrow). I've also not been dealing with anything else, really, because what's the point of eating healthily/earning pennies/redecorating until I've stopped smoking. I know, I know - it sounds crazy (and I know I'll think that too when I've finally shaken this thing off).
In the meantime, I'm going to try and cut down (maybe try knitting); I've accounted for cigarettes in my budget and I'm keeping that money separate so I can budget properly for everything else; and I'm going to carry on trying to sort the other stuff out so that I'm not so stressed and tired - I might feel more ready to stop.
I think you're right, sparkle, about eating properly. I think I might have over-reacted a bit this morning; I've had quite a lot of water today, not spent so much time sat at the computer, been out of the flat in the sunshine and eaten a healthy meal - I already feel 100 times better than I usually do at this time on Sunday night.
Positive things I've done today- Meal planned and shopped and now know what I'm going to eat for the rest of the week.
- Washed and ironed all my work clothes for the rest of the week (won't be rushing to find something to wear in the morning)
- Gave myself an hour to do some stuff for work, and finished it because I was focused, so I'm starting the week ahead instead of trying to catch up.
- Did my nails and used half a gallon of handcream, so a part of me actually looks vaguely feminine and pretty again.
I actually feel quite positive now - funny how a day can turn around.
I'm going to go to bed at a decent time tonight, so good night all.

Oops hi Mrs R - you snuck in while I was posting.
I made a vegetable, stewey thing today (in a desperate attempt to get some vege intake) and I have duly frozen two portions. To be honest, I've been so lazy recently I even bought microwave oven chips (not to be recommended by the way).0 -
Well, that's brilliant, so well done on your fresh new start. You can turn things around ( if you want to)....you are far too clever and self knowing not to!
I wish you the very best of luck and will check back often to see how you're doing......

Evening all.
I'm here a bit later than I intended tonight due to Tiscali wireless blooming disconecting - I upgraded because it was basically the same money and included digital tv, but I've had nothing but problems. The wireless is showing as available, but it's just not connecting from my laptop (but it does sometimes).
Today I have drunk some water, eaten some fruit and some vegetables - ok, so I've also eaten half a pack of biscuits and a snickers bar, BUT I've drunk some water, eaten some fruit and some vegetables :j
One of the (many) bad habits I've got into is switching the computer on as soon as I come in at night. I then spend hours mooching around, doing nothing particularly productive, and can't drag myself away to cook something. So, this week's aim is to eat a vaguely healthy meal before I put the computer on. I did this tonight (there was a bit of an unnerving "there's something not quite right here" feeling for a while, but I managed it). An added bonus is that, because I eat early, I've actually done the washing up - not quite a shiny sink, but on the way.
I also woke up earlier and feeling more awake this morning (maybe due to the gallons of water I drank in a panic yesterday). Celebrated by slavering myself in body lotion after a shower which means I am no longer looking quite so shrivelled. Also, received a sample of "Rejuvenating Anti-wrinkle Day cream" in the post today- not a moment too soon
So positives of the day- Eaten some fruit and veges
- Drank some water
- Eaten a proper evening meal
- Eaten some chocolate
- Did the washing up.
- Did something to help get back on the road to looking half decent again (albeit that it's a pretty long road!)

So P, how have you done this week?

Hi Polly
Just found your diary will be looking out for you in future
Sympathies with the work thing and the cooking - it is awkward when you're working long hours. I keep frozen veg for when I run out of fresh, so I don't miss it altogether, and have a stash of M&S healthy ready meals also in the freezer for emergencies. (Yes they're expensive, but less expensive than a takeaway and much better for me.) I also can't do full planning as worry I will change my mind and not want what I scheduled?! but having a storecupboard stock of pasta, gnocchi, pesto and sauces helps with being flexible.
Can't help with the smoking thing I'm afraid, but wanted to say that the upside of everything being connected and just sorting today, is that once you make progress on one thing, it does help start an 'upward spiral' as you have more energy for the other things IYSWIM.
take care
Rosa x

It's Friday :j:j and I've got a stinking cold
.
My theory is that the amount of alcohol previous circulating in my bloodstream saw off any stray viruses. Okay, maybe I'm just looking for an excuse to have a drink (a hot toddy is medicinal, isn't it?).
Mrs R - I've been trying, honestly. I've managed to eat a meal every night - it had some protein, some carbohydrate and some vegetables, although sometimes these were a bit of a strange combination (cottage cheese, mashed potato and brocolli anyone?). Aah, the joys of living alone.
I had my new council tax bill today and it's only gone up £2 a month, so I'm pleased with that, and my water rates have actually gone down (only £1.60, but it's in the right direction), so that's my good news of the day.
Rosa - are you all young things over on SAID or is there room to discuss support stockings to go with aforementioned shoes

I don't know the precise age range - it would be rude to ask - but I don't think all of us would describe ourselves as technically young things (I'm 34 if that's any help). And frankly, any excuse whatsoever to talk about shoes is likely to be welcomed
