    Hello everyone!
Had a lovely birthday yesterday - thanks for all the birthday wishes.
I got a lovely new ipod off OH, a laptop off my parents and some money off various other relatives and OHs relatives - i was very lucky!!
OH took me out for the day and then took me out for a meal last night with all his family, we then met up with some friends and had [STRIKE]a few[/STRIKE] lots of drinks.

Oh and OH even went through quidco for my present - im so proud hes turning MSE!! :rotfl:

Now i have a bit of a dilemma, OH has told me i MUST spend the money on myself as it was my 21st and thats what people would want me to do. However, it feels so wrong spending all that cash when it could go towards debts.

Terri!! Its great to see you back! We have all missed you. Sorry to hear that your having a bit of a rubbish time at the minute, but pennies for your PAD is better than nothing!! Keep up the good work. :T

Flower it sounds like you had a lovely day, you really should spend the money on yourself so that you have something to remind you of your 21st! Just carry on with your PADing. After all we need a treat now and again. Congrats to the OH on his :money:

  • I would much rather they pay by cheque and post it rather than the doorstep collecting that I did until about 7 years ago. I have tried to get more people paying by bank transfer but even in this tech age, surprisingly few go for that.
It's only a few minutes walk to my bank branch and I deposit cheques in the ATM (24/7 banking effectively) so it's not such a hardship. Trouble is that they recently increased the clearance times by 24 hours as policy. That doesn't sound too bad until you realise that, these past few days, a grands worth of cheques that would have cleared on Friday morning a few weeks ago, never actually cleared until very early this morning.

An extra 24hours doesn't sound so bad when you consider that Bank of Scotland make you wait 5 whole days! Even on the day of clearing, you can't access the cash until after 9am.

Flower I'm not trying to put you off spending your money on yourself as that was obviously the intended purpose but I'm turning 24 next month and still feel guilty about spending my 21st money on me

Being a DFW can turn you into a scrooge and I think sometimes that living all MSE all the time can be a bit too much...and that's where compromise comes into play.

How about you compromise with yourself (not really sure I'm spelling that right!) and buy something you really want and use the rest to go towards your debt? That way your still spending on yourself and helping reduce your debt so you're getting the best of both worlds?

Aw, glad you had a nice birthday Flower :) If you feel that bad about spending the money, why don't you pad half (or some other ratio) then spend the other half guilt free? I've done that before hehe.

Just making a little pad today of £1 as I'm waiting for various spends to clear from the weekend, once they're done I'll know how much I've got to PAD!

I might be going to Germany too to see family in the October break as well so I need to make sure I've got enough money for that. Must say I could do without spending the cash on travelling about but I haven't seen any of them for quite a few years now so it's only fair I guess.

Better go and update my sig and my (very neglected) diary!

    Hi All

I have now updated my debt totals and sig - total credit cards is back above £20K and total non-mortgage debt is back above £30K (just!). Hopefully this is just a temporary situation! I have decided to include my Egg card balance in my sig as this is the culprit - this is nearly all holiday expenses but some of it results from having to buy new clothes for DS (trousers!) and also new school shoes (previous pair fell apart!) and new trainers (also for school - previous pair now too small and also falling apart). I intend to update this total daily - nearly all current PADs will go to this card so it makes sense!
