theloft wrote:. Take Poppy 9's post about whether or not to go back and thank people and this gets 3 "Thanks" !! But I too was guilty of bemoaning the loss of that facility. A bit daft don't you think ?? Enough is enough I say.
I don't think I'm trival in the use of the thanks button. I did go back to 3 posts to give thanks as 3 people had gone out of their way to find out information for me. I think it was only polite to acknowledge that. If you wish you can see the thread here
I think the thanks my post attracted was because others shared the same sentiment. They too may have felt impotent in not being able to show appreciation to fellow MSE who often do a bit of research for you. That's what makes this such a great forum.

DEFINITELY !! Of course it is nice to have a Thanks button to enable people to quickly show their appreciation. The poster will know if the information has been appreciated, but when the post count comes into play, it starts to get abused, because small minded people try and get their count up! As for the cliques who thank each other for meaningless posts, well it is beyond comment. Come on MSE Martin, other MSE's, Webbie or anyone else involved.angel wrote:YES!! I totally agree with that. It's the counter that's the problem. It just encourages pointless posts.

No Avatars
I don't really mind these, but some are very annoying as they flash out of the corner of your eye. There used to be a thread on here about some people with epilepsy having problems as it induced their fits. I wish you could turn off the movement if you wanted to.

I think there is a way to turn these off completely, but until someone comes along to tell how, you can do it for each page by pressing the Escape keyDon`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -

in IE
Internet Options from Tools menu
Pick Advanced Tab
Under the Multimedia section untick Play animations in web pages
But of course you loose animation on all webpages you visit0 -
The thanks button has gone again.
Also I am still being logged out . Is anyone else still having problems. Someone mentioned a problem with the cookies. Can someone tell me what they are and how do I alter them.0 -
Go to Internet options/Temp internet files then press delete cookies.
That's fixed it for me it seems. It does mean you will have to retrain IE to remember your usernames passwords by re-entering them - so make sure you can remember them!0 -
Cookies are the means that websites use to recognise you when you log in to that site again. Some sites will not load pages with more info unless you allow cookies. A good example is a flight search site, which might not give you any prices unless you have allowed cookies. However it is dangerous to allow ALL cookies, so I am selective with the websites that I allow cookies on my computer. With Internet Explorer up & running, click on Tools, then Internet Options, then Privacy. You can then click & drag to the Privacy setting you want. I have mine set on HIGH. Now click on Edit. Type in the url of the site you want to allow cookies in the area shown. This must always begin with www. or http://. (https://www.moneysavingexpert.com for this site) Then click on Allow, then OK. This should solve any cookie problem with these forums. You can also go back and delete a site you have "allowed" using the same procedure.joe13 wrote:The thanks button has gone again.

My system is Windows Me, so it might be slightly different with XP, but should be similar."0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0 -
I've not looked to see if this has been mentioned. Was going to blame the slowness of the site but I'm just too lazy!
:rotfl:
In the reply box, the old version had the option to increase and decrease the size of the reply box. I found this very handy. Any chance we can have it back?
Thanks very much and if it has already been mentioned I've slapped my wrist in advance!
