I use my cheese slice for cheese on toast. I find it much better (not to mention more economical) that my rather heavy handed knife slicing!

Yes just love my cheese slicer, it must be about 25 years old now but still very good.

Years ago I was having a moan to an old friend about, the then OH ,snacking on about 1/4 pound of cheese a time. She advised me to grate it, didn't work
he ate it with a tablespoon. I can laugh now but at the time could have murdered him.

My GF is Dutch so we have had one for years and years, I was amazed when I first saw them, wondered why everyone doesn't use them, less waste etc. To think I used to cut chunks off with a knife!

Yep, it definitely seems that they are pretty rare over here, but widely used on the continent. We had ours as a wedding present from a Norwegian friend, and when we opened it, none of our friends/family who were there knew what it was :p - best guess was an oddly shaped cake slice!! :rotfl:

Love it though - its been in use for the last 10 years and we use it all the time...!:T

  • I use one too! We always had one at my mum's and i remember being shocked going to friends houses when they didn't have one!

My OH now uses mine for peeling veg as he doesn't like cheese - a multifunctional cheese slicer!

Had a brilliant cheese slicer which broke a wee while back. Replaced it, but not the same thing at all - bought from Lakeland, was absolute rubbish, and wasn't cheap. Just wish I could remember where I had got original from - had it for years. Anyway, have gone back to slicing with a knife until I get a really good cheese slicer again.
As for all those who have bought slicers from Nordic countries, any of you have those little hand-held graters in the same style as the cheese slicer? Got one in Holland many years ago, and just the business for grating a little cheese at the table. Bought another for a spare here in UK - totally useless. It cannot even grate a decent hard cheddar without sticking, let alone a softer cheese such as Edam or Gouda.
Anyone who can help me out on the quest for a great cheese slicer, and another wee hand/table grater?
