Whoops, I tried it from my 3G SIM card before reading that and it deducted £1 but no text message received although I only had £1 credit on the phone at the time (£1.50 required according to T&Cs).

an hour after signing up, ive got a text (again) saying
"Your 1 pound Orange World Access has now started, giving me unlimited browsing till midnight tonight"

Good news is, unlimited = no 1mb cut off (hopefully)
Worrying News = if it doesnt work, i only have untill midnight, stupid if you sign up at 10:59, and it takes an hour to work :-/

I tried at around 22:30 last night on a normal SIM card (that also has Orange Out There) and got the following message back soon after:

"We're sorry but you won't get value from a £1 bundle until after midnight now. Please re-order then or in the morning to enjoy unlimited browsing for £1"

Tried again this morning and got the following message:

"Orange: Thanks for signing up to Orange World Access at £1 for 1 day. This will start at <1 hour from now>. Make sure you disconnect / reconnect to Orange World to start".

I thought the usual procedure for getting £1 unlimited access in a day was to text 'WORLD 1' to 6610. See my other post here

Does anyone know if the orange gprs servive can be used with say your laptop to access web pages/email etc. I currently use o2 to achieve this but if orange allowed this access it would certainly be better

This page helped me to get online using my laptop and a 3G/GPRS data card from eBay. You can also get 3G PAYG SIM cards off eBay to use in them, a normal 2.5G SIM in one should give you up to 56kbps. eBay is the only option if you are on PAYG as network operators will not sell you a data card, nor a 3G PAYG SIM card on it's own - they will only sell you a contract.

For network specific settings check out this page and also scroll down to the section at the bottom for how to use your phone as a GPRS modem under 'GPRS via a modem' and also 'GPRS from a laptop' which is slightly out of date now as it doesn't mention the Orange data card released after Vodafone and TMobile ones were made available. I was using my phone as a modem initially but my laptop could only connect to the phone at 9600bps using a data cable which restricted the internet connection speed.

    For contract customers:
The Orange 3G/GPRS Mobile Office data card is available here,
the Vodafone Mobile Connect data card is available here
and the TMobile Web 'n' Walk data card is available here

Is the loophole to get free Orange World access still working or has it stopped?

  • hi wen i got my orange out here i was thrilled but in half a year they stopped it. so now i hav to spend loads of money on txts:mad:
  • I used to have the permanent 'out here' for £15 which after a while orange decided to limit to lasting 1 year. I think so many people complained that they had paid for it on the premise that it would last indefinately meant that they couldn't take it off people who had it before the change.

It was a good deal at the time, but I looked carefully at the 'text saver plan' and found that for the amount I text it was cheaper to get rid of the 'out here' and go over to the 'text saver' plan (£10 per month top up giving 300 texts the following month and you still have the £10 as credit anyway so in effect the messages are free). I swapped over at christmas too and took advantage of the free evening calls for life offer. So now if I top up £10 I get 300 texts and 300 mins free per month, and I still have the £10 in credit to use.

ive no idea if this offer or even the £1 a day offer still exists, but i think i remember reading in both of them that its not allowed for 3g phones/connections ... try searching for the offer on orange world to see if it still exists, or try and find the post earlier on in the forum with the T&C's

    good luck

on a side note, it could be cheaper to get a wifi card and "borrow" internet ... and to get a phone number, use https://www.sipgate.co.uk so people can contact you still as long as you are online and you have a mic
