What's the best phone for GPRS surfing (both on the device and connected to a laptop)?

A small update, found the T&C's while browsing, here are few important notes:

As a PAYG customer you must have £1.50 airtime credit on your phone befor eyou can subscirbe to the bundle

If you are subscribed to an Orange World Bundle it is not possible to buy a £1 bundle, until the Extra has expired.

Also just warning that it takes an hour to come into effect, and you must end and restart wap session to check, oh and saying that it is *meant* to end at the midnight of everyday

Apart from that, it appears to be still good and working, over 24 hours on :-)

    ___

As for best phone for GPRS, i wouldnt know, im using sony ericsson and it appears to be good, but some people like nokia / symbian phones, as you can install more things on them, and again, some people just have pocked pc's

i think ive seen gprs cards out there too, to go into laptop slots, (maybe there 3g) but you never know, try looking on ebay :-/

oh, the T&C has a second page:

Only valid in UK, you will be charged international if outside it

Customers with 3G handsets not valid

    Orange World rules apply

This is not an orange extra and unlike orange world extra any data consumed whilst using this will not be counted as "use towards the "use £10 and get £5 free promotion"

    whatever that means :-/

    hmmm

    dilemma :-/

I would guess it depends on how old the sim cards are, i remember reading that orange sim cards pre 2002 don't come with WAP activated, those after do

I know as i upgraded phones, and could never get on, and had to phone up to say "i cant get on WAP" despite loading the settings, and they had to activate it for me.

But before you phone up, i would use the automatic WAP / GRPS settings that are avaliable online, what phone do you have? i know sony ericsson can send it to you in a text?

[STRIKE]and i think if you go to the orange site you can get them to do the same if you enter your phone model and number[/STRIKE]

never mind, have found the link

    http://orangeotm.wdsglobal.com/orange/wap

go there, do it for both GPRS and GSM, and get them to text it to you, and hope that works :-)

(If you dont trust the link direct, go to Orange site > help and support > FAQ > Data and multimedia > How do i connect my phone to WAP and the link will appear at the bottom

    fingers crossed that will work

else they may be old sims and need to be phoned to be updated / allowed
    (text message sim update thing)

again, if you read up, it says you need £1.50 worth of credit to start the offer, maybe worth registering a top up swipe card on them both, and put the minimum amount on both (afaik the minimum scratch card is £20 where sold :-/)

Back in the day you could get "5 free texts a day" for a one off payment of £15, (at the time i signed up it was for ever, then it went to a year, and its meant to of expired :-/)
I'm in the same boat. Two and a half years ago I got the Orange Text Saver which gave 5 texts per day for one year. Definately Text Saver and _not_ Out Here.

Two and a half years later I still get 5 free texts per day, despite getting a text from Orange 18 months ago saying that my deal had expired.

I'm not doing anything to this account that would cause me to lose them :-)

I have a couple of free payg orange sims and I am curretly on a monthly contract with orange. Does anybody know if I can use the payg sim to surf and get content for my phone and continue to use the contract sim for regular use, viz - calls and texting? Will using the payg sim for surfing adversely affect the settings on my phone or invalidate my contract

Thought I had hit the jackpot with this one. Actually you get a free trial using "WAP Services" (1 month I think) as soon as that expires you get charged a ridiculous rate per mb. I went from £14 credit to £0 in a few days. I will update this thread once I get the billing info from Orange, but the botton line is this "loophole" has been closed. :(

seconded, people beware, i hit june the first, and was browsing away as normal, then got cut off, checked my balance, and its £0.00, evidently orange arnt as dumb as they look

i have now noticed the £1 a day deal has changed t&c and the word to text to on the official orange page to

    was nice while its lasted

and thankfully for those who have this and the free 5 texts a day, i just topped up, and they are still there \o/
